Spring RTS Engine

I have no problem with a typical fps, or any game that connects to a server in-game, but trying to connect to the spring client or something like hamachi gives me trouble.

I go to school at the U.S. Naval Academy and as such we have very tight network controls. I have never had any problem with connecting to servers to play games before spring, though. So what I'm asking for is someone who may have experienced a similar problem connecting to the spring server from wit...
