Reworking the map format is a beast - first everyone needs to decide on a format, then a map making program needs to be made for it, and then finally spring has to support it. Getting all those pieces together is going to take some time.

The problem with .RAW files is that it's just what the format says: It's raw flat image data! There's no information in there to determine the dimensions / specifications of the image. To load a .RAW file you need to know EXACTLY it's dimensions, color format, interleaving options, and other formats...

The bitmaps should be saved in 24 bit format if I'm not mistaken, go back and read through the readme in the forum post for it's release, it should tell you what you need. Also, make sure your base texture is a multiple of 1024. 1024x1024 would make a 1x1 (old TA scale) map in Spring.

Looks awesome, but why doesn't it show you a preview at the end? I'm not touching that until it does. Oh, and why doesn't it do spherical terrain? Or random terrain? Could you throw a fractal converter in there for me? I'd love that. Oh, how about moving platforms? Those would ROCK! Oh - but in all ...

Only when I have a 1 gigabyte/sec fiber line to the internet plugged directly into my house will I say that compression is not needed. But at that time, files will be so huge that we'll still need it :)
