IMO the reason why OTA players don't like SPRING+AA/XTA that much is because of the way the game reacts to commands you give. The OTA interface is much more responsive. I think I found out the reason for the random crash.
Whenever a marker is placed on the map while you scroll by rightclicking on the minimap the game just quits without error message.

i have the same problem (spring 0.72b1)

I run a Samsung x20. 1.86GHz Pentium m and a mobility raedon x700.
