Actually, all I did was copy the .sd7 into the ~/.spring/maps folder. There was no unzipping on my part, and when I start the lobby the maps available for selection all end with the extension .smf.

I managed to connect SpringLobby on one machine running Ubuntu and another running Windows. I understand that a patch will help, however I don't get how graphics have anything to do with a missing file armor.txt or whatever. Did you read the entire crash log?
