I tried to rename \Spring\base\spring\bitmaps.sdz to a .7z and open it: there's no minismoke.png in either the /bitmaps folder or the /bitmaps/smoke folder. Where is the file supposed to be?

 the file has to be inside the game archive...

i guess either in XTAPEV9665b_Speed_0.7.sd7 or in when it depends on xta, inside xtapev966.sd7 (?).

where can i download the current version of your xta? how can i reproduce that?

 My guess would be an entry in resources.lua referencing the non existent file - can be fixed by using the 'automatic' one used in S44, Evo, etc

I', so sorry, I thought it was the engine that didn't work but of course it's the xta mod, I didn't see I used the experimental one instead of the latest beta for testing the next spring.

My apologies and I promise to look at the log better next time before I post a bug report. You can now tag this as solved or as erroneous or whatever, and sorry for wasting your time.
