Summary0001448: Air plants won't build when placed against something
DescriptionJust ran into this one tonight, and took me a while to figure out why only one of my air plants was building.

If you build advanced air plants (and maybe regular air plants) right up against each other, then they won't build, and won't give any feedback as to why they're not building - they just sit there idle, but with a build queue. They should either:
  1. build anyway since they're building airplanes so they shouldn't need any space to their front, or
  2. give some sort of warning like constructors do - "Adv. Air Plant - building blocked" or "front blocked" or "no space to build"

With normal labs (I think) they still build, but then the unit is stuck inside.

Thanks,

KriegEm/Anthony

Cannot reproduce, which mod(s) does this happen in?

Reproduced in BA695 and ca-r4762.
But not in XTA 9.58.

Sorry, forgot to add that part - yes, it was in BA 6.95

Could you upload a screenshot of how to arrange the airfields so that they block each other? The configuration I tried (see AirFields.png) didn't trigger it.

It seems that you need non flat ground to reproduce.

Building large arrays on Altored Divide triggers it.

That's odd, because I noticed it on SpeedMetal. I had my air plants rotated 90 degrees though, so perhaps that's what makes a difference?

I'll try and reproduce, and send a screenshot

Just uploaded a couple of screenshots - I'll put my notes here. They're both from XTA9.58, and replicate what I was seeing in BA6.95 with speedmetal, which is a completely flat map, btw.

screen000.png:
A whole bunch of adv. air plants going up the left side, facing north - none of them build except for the northern one. It's blocked but not by another plant, which seems to make a difference. Notice that they all have their nanolathes out, but aren't building anything. It looks like it thinks that the platform is blocked.

In the centre is another experiment - the southern one built planes, but as soon as I started building another plant to the north, it stopped. I reclaimed the northern plant and it started again. So it doesn't seem that build order matters much.

Along the north are some basic air plants, facing west. They have the same problem, but the westernmost one builds fine.

screen001-crop.png:
Much the same, but with the plants facing east and south. They have the same problem, except that the second one is building. I have no idea why - I built them from the east to the west.

Hope that helps - let me know if you have any other questions, or if you want me to replicate this with BA. I could try another map, and see if elevation makes a difference.

Thank you. I've got the responsible piece of code in front of me now, it'll be gone soon enough. :)
