Spring RTS Engine

I swear, I cannot leave you people to yourselves without this place turning into a massive flame war. I sat by while Caydr attacked me without and retaliation, I sit through tons of crap and at this point I don't care about the trolls.

It is very simple we have many talented people fighting in here. It needs to stop now!

I have always done what I can to support spring and give what I can to it. At this point in time, it makes me furious! What ever happened to making shit for spring? To make it better, not all this self centered promotion! Make what you do for spring!

SWTA, 1944, nanoblobs, EE, gundam and TA STUFF can exist together! For the sake of sanity, this is a free engine capable of soo much and people get all tied up in the ego of it all.

Outside of my models, I have always offered my scripts, explosion art, sounds, knowledge and time! I didn't ask for anything! Is it that hard for people to do? FOR THE PEOPLE!

When gundam comes out, I am going to be posting some of the more interesting code for people to learn from and use! This crap about a copyrighted bos file is asinine! This is beginner level code people!!! ZWZSG is the only person who has done ANYTHING revolutionary! Guess what, he offers it freely!

I have a conflict with the way people are going overboard around here over the gpl shit. Obviously if the Spring engine in gpl then all works released for it should realistically be, too. But I could give a rat's ass if people don't release things freely for edit. Big frigging deal. Learn to produce shit yourself if you don't want to share. Live and let live is my motto, but I also believe share or leave my stuff the fuck alone. :)

Just kidding really. This community, from what I've read in the old posts buried in this forum are what attracts me to Spring. The community and their ability to freely share all aspects of the game are an exciting legacy left over from the old TA days. Anyone that simply refuses to share their work is a real retard in my opinion. But that doesn't mean I'd freely reuse their works out of spite, rather it makes me question why they are even here and I avoid their stuff altogether.

Anyone that was around just after the demise of cavedog remembers all the tiffs from Chris about with his pay-per-view for the damn Xect and Mynn races. Then we had Silencer always going apeshit whenever someone put one of his works in a unit pack. It was pure pandemonium bullshit over nothing really. And what happened with each drama? People stopped using their shit altogether. So figure this, if you raise a stink about releasing your works to further edit then don't expect the original work to live long at all. It won't.

The gpl works because people can progress the work. It allows people to take an idea and expand upon it. Popular opinion after that point drives the legacy, whether the original was better or worse. But the original is what usually lives on long past the derivative. Without the free progression of the idea its bound to wither from atrophy and slowly sink to permanent oblivion.

I wish people would just let people run with your works and be simply happy they did use them. Quite frankly its the best option for the whole community.

I think this is pretty pointless. Fang has already said that what he did was a bit wrong and he misunderstood and Argh has already said he overreacated and they've both said sorry.

I didn't like that GPL violation too, and also consider both Argh's and Fang's reactions inappropriate. I don't understand why Fang didn't just give credit and relicense the infringing files to GPL either. (No need to relicense the whole mod, only those files that use GPL-d code, after all.) Anyway, this issue should never go public, and I strongly suggest that if some other mod finds itself in a similar situation, just comply with the damn license, it's there for a reason - be it GPL or something else.

That's my $.02.

Every community, especially RTS ones, has lots of mini flamewars all the time but unless there are quite a few people both stubborn and obnoxious or with a lot of people egging them on, it never becomes an issue.
