Rapier hoards kill themselves

I noticed in the last game I played, that my Rapiers would shoot eachother during attacks. So I'd send in 100 and even with minimal resistance I'd be losing 20 every 10 seconds even if no one was firing back at them.
Is there someway that this can be fixed or corrected? Perhaps an adjustment to the code that governs the strafing attacks?

thats a micro issue. separate your hordes.

It's a mod issue, not a game engine issue. Mods can turn off friendly-fire hits if they want to. IOW, it's a feature, not a bug.

Ouch, that's a pretty painful feature.

use brawlers instead

Set selfdamage and damageclass to other rapiers to 1 for instance, should not this fix it?

Unless it's one of the weapon types where Spring ignores those tags...

Mmm, yeah. I'm Core but my Rapiers keep killing each other, so I'll just switch over to Brawlers. Yeah..... >_> (unless you have an Arm ally with a constructor to spare of course)

or access to arm construction unit corpses
"just switch to brawlers" isn't exactly a universally practical option.

Mmyeah, exactly my point, but without the sarcasm.....

Hahahah, I haven't used rapiers in a long time. I use them in small strike squads of 5, and use like 30 in a large rush targeting important things..
Enemies overwhelmed: Check
Rapiers not FF'ing each other: Check

Five rapiers isn't worth much, and there aren't enough group slots to waste on groups of 5 or so. I had problems with 30 as well. But I can't say for sure if FF was a big part in my losses on that one.

Yeah it's simply a micro issue. You can't just send them as a huge group at the enemy, you have to separate them somewhat. It's not overly difficult due to their speed.

Bug has been reported to the XTA dev team, a solution/decision concerning will follow.

just set their missles damage against air targets to 0

Or give them the friendly fire tags, which allows them to still hit enemy aircraft if they happen to be landed, or something like that.

I like the friendly fire tags myself. It's always kinda nice/fun to use brawlers or rapiers to shoot down aircraft. Though I noticed that they don't fire at air units anymore.
I don't think it's that micro if your core and you need gunships. My tests showed that a group of 100 rapiers targeting only one spot take very very few casualties. However when shifting targets periodically the rapiers start taking heavy casualties and more than that I found that virtually all of the rapiers were holding on with a sliver of life left. So anything could take them down in one shot. If this doesn't apply to brawlers than I think that's a serious handicap to Core's air force.
The only friend fire situation I can find that's worse than the raipers is bombers in general, they tend to bomb other their own planes. I lost half of 100 in a relatively short period of time.
However, I understand you, that it's "micro" because it's theoretically easy to fix. So, if it's so easy, why not do it?

Anyone had an similar problem with subs? sometimes, then in very shallow water, the torpedos hit the ground imediatly after being shot and hurt the submarine. He keeps shooting and finishes killing hinself... but this only happened on coast to coast until now. (but in all maps if the sub is too near to his target to explosion of the torpedos will hurt him too)
