Little Project I'm working on.

Just messing around with a turret design, I was playing around with the idea of a multi turreted POP-UP defence structure, but with a twist on how it will actually operate.

Basically its a hardened bunker with a single flame turret, and the idea is that it would be a fairly weak defense unit with a single gun and would be very hard to kill as its closed up.

Once it opens up, it increases its firepower 5x, but becomes very easy to damage and allows its use of 3 seperate turrets that can each track a target, effectively making it an antiswarm turret.

I give you "the Deciever"

I am going to start the Texturing of it pretty soon, but one area I am completely lost on is converting a 3dStudio-Max file into any format I can use in Upspring, and using upspring to put it into a format that can be used in the Spring engine.

If anyone could help me get through that process, it would be appreciated.

Hm, how about a cheaper version that cannot open like that so the enemy has to guess if it's the cheap one or the popup?

Very good idea indeed, make another identical building with only 1 turret that doesn't pop_up and costs a whole lot less.

That would complete the deception :-)

I like that idea alot KDR_11k

Either that, or it could be an experience bonus for keeping it alive long enough? once you reach that "golden" experience it pops up with full arsenal.

** I also added in a movie of my first design model I was working on, its above the link for the other movie.**

Lol, I made a similar turret "multi-gun-pop-up". There was a complete family :
-Heavy laser
-Missile launcher
-Flak gun
-Plamsa cannon
-Annihilator

I'll pack them into an ufo file

Why ufo?

Sounds sweet. Can i put it in Lego Spring?

/me kicks UFO and points at: http://taspring.clan-sy.com/wiki/Mod_De ... t:Archives

s3o's are supposed to be made in 3DS anyways:

Yes but who can afford 3D Studio MAX?

you know, you can just export all the parts as .obj files and re-orient them inside UpSpring...

upsring can also import the 3ds filetype (the standard export file from 3dsmax) like obj-files.

I know, that's what I'm doing. But I'm objecting to his comment that the models for an opensource game should be made with a high $ package.

Its all I have, and all I know how to use well and to be honest I've seen alot of free/cheaper$$ modeling programs, and I like how 3dsmax works compared to those.

3ds can be exported from wings3d, and imported too!

My biggest problem when exporting a .3ds from 3dstudio_max is that .max is its standard format.

When I export to that .3ds, the model loses its shading and sometimes becomes completely unwelded also.

Wish there was a cleaner way to get it straight into .s30

lol... s3o or 3do to 3ds = no!

I just tried to get it back in wings3d for uving, and it looked like it got mauled by the model of the superunit I made XD

omg lol, I must be going blind XD
thx, I'll give it a shot.

**edit**
tried the export tool, said the plug-in isn't working.

This is setup for 3dsmax ver_7 to use this plug?
I have 3dsmax5.
