I'd suggest you change #2 to a more general "context-sensitive" request, since you don't want to limit whoever implements this to simply "war" and "building" playlists.

I believe this would be the "bare minimum" requirements, once implimented it wouldn't take nearly as much effort to expand on.

IMO ingame music is trivial. There are far more important things to be patched. Unit limits, fixing cloaking code, figuring out why when something extracts it can't build, and many others which escape me at the moment. Honestly i rarely listen to music while playing and if i am it basically gets ignored by me since im focused on the game.

I think that for now 5000 unit limit is fine, most games stay under 1000 per side anyways. Cloaking is not a vary widely used feature nor all that important to me. To me music adds a whole depth to the game. Ever played the original TA? It just gives that satisfying edge when your 20 goliaths start attacking and the war music turns on. To me, music is a very important part of the game.

You, and many others may disagree what you think is most important, and that is fine with me. Why don't you go start your own thread, and not tell me what to think?

In closing, go away.

It's hammy's own money - obviously he thinks its important.

So yeah, heh.

first off im not talking that unit limit... :?

i meant this:
http://taspring.clan-sy.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=6265

That would allow us to really get away from TA style gameplay.

Secondly if u post in a public forum be prepared for criticism either pro or con ur arguement. If you don't want this to be a discussion pm a dev or a "patcher."

HA HA HA!

I don't get out of bed for 7 bucks.

Hello,

I would be willing to write music for this game for free (I note the 7$ is for implementing it 8) ), because I need the experiance + incentive.

I see you are having trouble implementing music into the game. Perhaps the prospect of actually having music to implement will create an added incentive to add in-game music.

I do not understand this game yet, but if there are extended periods of time where you are doing certain things, naturally I would be quite willing to write seperate music for each of these things. I will research this game to figure out what is appropriate, but I would love suggestions.

I would also like to see this feature implemented! Perhaps 7$ and a few songs will get you out of bed. (7$ is quite a silly payment  )

Thanks,
milkshake

Y'know... we can have in-game music. It's not even hard, the code for this stuff is supported by BOS, and the sound code. In-game music could even be randomized.

But... support for your specific playlist format? C'mon, dude...

M3U is hardly a specific format, open one up in notepad sometime.

Anyway, the BOS "method" is hardly ideal. I had a system like that going but all it did was bloat filesize (yay! full songs as wav!) and sound like crap... it was especially bad that you couldn't even turn it off. Great. :P

Actually, now that we can control things through ACTIVATE and have a sound play, we could turn things off. I'm not saying it's not crude, but it's quite possible.

AFter looking into this game a little, it seems that there a lot of seperate "mods" for it.

If anyone would like me to write music for their mod, I would be quite happy to. I think music can add alot to a game, so don't hesitate to ask me to make something, and if you don't like it, throw it away. I can write sci-fi music (it seems the majority of mods are sci-fi.)

This is a very interesting project. A engine for a lot of different games. Hm.

P.S. I don't like M3U files but oh well.

Playlists could be mod specific... but I really think it's more a user relevent thing. Right now we don't even have music :P

You're a trickster  . I'll see if I get inspired to write music. XD

I've already offered to write music and have been ignored several times.

What sort of music are you writing?

Cool!

Maybe we can band together and become noticed. Here, let me post some clips, I just figured out how to do this easily + effectively :-)

This isn't the kind of thing I was planning on writing for a sci-fi game, obviously, but it is the sort of stuff that I've written of late.

What type of music were you planning to write? Have you heard the music from OTA? Its orchestral, like you have written (although performed by an orchestra, not synthesised), and fits really well with the game. Grab it off FileUniverse if you dont already have it.

You can make Midis sound a lot better and a lot closer to live performance if you get better instruments packs and saving as an MP3... otherwise I think someone offered to have their high school band record tracks for us one time... the acctual clips are quite good... for this game I'm thinking more OTAish and less "SuperNintendoOrOpenSourceRpg-ish"... that or like The Who.

If your really really lucky, and you compose some good music, i just might be able to hook up an ochestra. I dont promise anything, but you never know, i might get lucky. But first, music helps alot.
