Ok, I think I've got the style narrowed down now...
Take your pick! These are not the final res/tex, I'm just trying to get a good Arm style going.
And BTW, I'm making all the decals HI-RES, so even on steep cliffs they still look good. ( I have a screenshot for proof. )

Maybe one with the shape of the left, but with the edges of the right?
IMO they should also be a lot smaller.

I'm voting "regular octagons tiled over the floor".

I liked those "Yellow" Road-like Edges.
You know, Gray-Yellow-Gray-Yellow.
Was Quite cool.
Something like that perhaps? Hm Oo.

Hexagonal with yellow stripes around them.

I think the decals should be kitten pictures. Then everyone would love the game.

Because they could then shoot kittens

No stripes; stripes will look messy with tiling. And yellow is bad color for this period.
+1 for JC; edges of right, shape of left.

Is that concrete or tarmac?
Hexagonal would look wierd because overlapping hexagons would need their buildings to be placed perfectly. Adding stripes compounds the problem.

Hexagons wouldn't work because decals overlap. A splat might look better....I guess there's not any ground detail I would like at all because everything overlaps in spring and looks very ugly. If there was some way to automatically tile them or something it would look much better.
