im just about to scale my map.. just wanted to know. in the map units for mapconvertion.. how tall (roughly) is the commander

and secondly how much range (in pixels) do burthas and the super revolving burthas have? roughly again (1024 pixels = 2 map units) thanks

Its maybe about as tall as however you want it to be!

I think its about as tall as a ten story building, about fifty feet or so.

do a search first. There have been many huge heated arguments over this.

The (little)men represent ~6 foot tall men

The AA Unit Guide holds the answers you seek.

Another good scale picture is one from PCGamer's latest issue. Its got a commander stepping on a hydrolisk, while an overenthusiastic editor in chief rides on the Com's shoulders.

Hilarious!

I am shure I must be wrong, but the Commander scaling is probably much larger that anyone thinks,, I mean look at the commanders scaling in Supreme commander.

Food for thought?

Well thats the Suprime Commander. He's bigger.

Much much bigger.

The commander is as tall as you want him to be. Smoth has one possible scale in that picture, but it can really be whatever you like.

The range of those units in elmos can be found in the unit guide. I'm not sure how an elmo translates to map units though.

smoth's scale is completely arbitrary. You can follow it, but it isn't an accepted standard by enemy means.

The fuck ever. If I had internet... you know what... forget it.

and here

arbitrary... anyway... the link about size and relation to elmos is there in those threads.

The leap comes with you say that a car is half a footprint. A footprint is whatever you want it to be..either 10 miles or 10 inches. I understand the relationship between measurement units ingame, but to then take those units and give them real world definition is flawed (Ie, to say that a car is 16x8 elmos).

I did that for AATA, and AATA alone. This works because the scale is completely internal, and so does not have to try to apply to anything else. For example, in AATA scale, SWTA stormtroopers are about 4.5 meters tall. which, quite obviously, is too large. However, if you take stormtroopers to be 2m tall, then AATA infantry are less than a meter tall, which is also flawed.

Scale is mod dependant. If you want to make features for maps, the only guideline is consistancy betwee those features - you can make the commander as tall as a five story building, or only as tall as the doorway (engine collision detection issues aside)

Smoth's scale comes from OTA, the scale names he made up (ie "elmo").
Arbitrary, my ass.

I think you are all stupid and he just wants to know how many texture pixels == a 1x1 footprint.

That might do it. :-)

Smoths scale is arbitrary, but very well though through. It's easily the most sensical estimate for scale I've ever seen for OTA/Spring.

So, after the many arguments and debates in the OTA world over the actual scale of the units, Smoth, over at the Spring forum, manages to figure it out?

Smoth made a scale for himself to use, which he is welcome too. To somehow think that he can enforce this scale on anyone else is ludicrous. I don't intend to make SWTA follow such a scale, because if I did, there would be serious engine issues.

Again, it is completely arbitrary. There is no mention that the universe we are in is a human one, or that the cars we see are human, etc, etc.

Putting a scale on OTA, or Spring, is grasping at straws. People have to work out a scale for themselves.

And you can kick, and scream, and threaten all you want, Smoth, but that's my opinion, and you aren't going to change it.

Smoth's scale makes sense from what I've seen, but SWTA is a completely different UNIVERSE from TA. So it follows that it would have a differing scale.

And how is SWTA going, by the way?

AATA is based around a 1m = 1unit in a modelling program scale. Then doubled to better suit footprint sizes.

Not too bad, zoombie. We've fixed up all the droid issues, etc, but we'd rather release a big version rather then a small patch, so we're holding back until we get some more units done (And for the next spring update, which'll let as do some cool stuff).

Still a little while off (I'm knee-deep in exams atm), but on the way!
