Fed up, asking for help...

Damn features are pissing me off....

they are doing this to me:

1- ALWAYS RECLAIMABLE.... that causes problems....
2- ALWAYS BLACK.... can't figure that out...
3- ALWAYS THE WRONG SCALE!.... grumble....

anyone who has time to help me on TS please do so.... I'll have my mic with me tonight, and most of the evening....

if you can offer pointers... or at least set up a test somehow and allow me to mimic it... I'd be grateful....

Try 99% transparency rather than 100%

This appears to depend on what program you save your textures in. I use PSP which seems to think 100% transparency may as well be black, since you wont be seeing underlying image.

photoshop CS2, and its a TGA, and no transparency as far as I know....

I think most of the problem is the TDF file....

figuring
a- reclamation
b- its completely walk-through
c- footprint/size issues...

:|

maybe I'll get it eventually...

edit:

Someone needs to "idiot-proof" all the map editing tools for modelers like me that are bad with code...

edit2:

It'd be different if I didn't spend.. about 4 and a half hours trying to figure this out already d-loading compiliers... map builders... smd thingamajigs.. and reading every tutorial and page in the wiki....

I guess I'm just a moron... :( ... urgh....

someone needs to make this REAL easy... make a "demo" map editing folder, then put EVERYTHING in it set it all up to run properlly, and zip the whole directory.. then stupid people like me and go... ok lets add:

texture.bmp
height.bmp
metal.bmp

click go on the "go.bat" file... (gives options for height etc)
new map generated:

NEWMAP.smt
NEWMAP.smf

if features are to be added...
just add the files in the right folders:

feature.bmp
*.s3o
*.tga
TEMPLATES for the *.tdf)

and click go on a second batch file... that would make my life, sooo, much easier....

the SMD file thingie is fine allready....

hell, you could code it into a fancy smanchy flash proggie... that'll run all that for you and ask you for specific things...

I'll give you a cookie if you can do it :-)

If you are making features, you can check existing maps with them, like Gods of war remake v2.

Carefull on info about features, bc the way you must use the alpha channel (i think) has changed latelly and info may be outdated.

On the black features, are you using s3o's?

are you using old (3do) textures on them?.

I think Reclaimable = 0 doesn't work yet... so I don't think you're going to be able to make a non reclaimable feature for this version of spring...

they are s3o files, with tga maps...

and there is no alpha channel.

I know yer helping, I'm just short of ideas myself...

Needs an alpha channel, put it at 99% black.

never heard of an engine needing that before, but I'll give it a shot..

It is, trust me on this one.

Yes, we've established quite soundly that spring needs an alpha channel in s3o model textures.

ok, well... I took a chunk of the corner and made it 100% alpha...

it didn't help

are you meaning to make the ENTIRE texturemap 99% tex, 1% alpha transparency? :?:

yes.

doh!!....

ok, I'll try that then, then work on my texture allignment and bounding boxes.... you can still walk right through the dang things... (The giant swamp trees I'm working on)

You think or are you sure? if so, do the bug report.

@Lathan.

The alpha layer must be completelly masking the other layers..

Take a look at the textures at any s3o unit working out there (as arghs 6 laser tank).

If in doubt, try a mixed pattern in the alpha channel, leave some parts darken, and some transparent (in the graphics editor).

Just use photoshop. Maybe its way of using alpha layers is borked, but it works great for Spring texturing.

I've heard several feature creators complain about it. I don't have the resources to do a repro test myself.

Just take gods of war remake and edit the text file describing the feature, so its unreclaimable, (see the wiki). winrar and notepad+spring?

we all can findreport bugs

I know reclaimable =0
featurereclamate=(featurenamehere);
DO NOT WORK....

And lathan... you can always use that painted desert version that I made for testing purposes.

the one in my spring directory that I told you to get...
