Cannot return to Windows on exit

About 1/4 times I exit a game, the screen goes black, and refuses to return me to a windows desktop. The only solution is to press the power button to put my computer into sleep mode, then turn it back on. (Keyboard is unresponsive)

Wondering if anyone knows what would cause this.

Game itself runs fine and is very enjoyable

P4 3.4 GHz
1 GB RAM
128MB NVIDIA GeForce FX Go5700

When i run spring and close ti off the spring executable doesnt actualyl exit altho ti goes back to desktop ti still runs in the background, and itnerferes with any toher progs usign OpenGL such as screensavers, and ti prevents new instances fo spring starting.

But this problem dissapears if I recompile using My copy of VS 2003

Well after looking into this problem a little further, it turns out my video card was going bad and I sent it in to HP to be fixed.

I hate HP.
