OTA Balance as default?

I remember when this project was being set out the original aim was to get a faithful version of OTA working in the Spring engine, and then continue from there to make Spring something even better.
XTA is a great idea, but it has a long way to go before it will be as satisfying to play as OTA. It never had a very big community back when it was TA mod, so shouldn't OTA be taking a bigger priority?
I think that alot of TA players would be far more intersted in Spring if it was OTA compatable out of the box, and the balance issues with OTA (someone with more expertise could detail them better than I) could then be properly examined and ironed out.

Nobody will be able to agree on what mod to use. Hence, the SY's decide their one.

You'd think they could atleast bundle the OTA packages with the install. Those OTA packages have been around for ages...

No one plays them, and don't kid yourself into beliving that it's just because people can't be assed to DL. I can hardly go on spring these days without seeing at least 50% AA, and cadyr updates a new version every week. Springers aren't too lazy to DL stuff. OTA just sucks.

A version of OTA with Bugs and balance fixed?
Meh, i don't really like OTA ranges, OTA balance, OTA buildsystem among other. I proably think that it would be pretty okay if fixed, and i could maybe try it, but i douth i would play if ofen. Could work for Oldschool fans offcourse.
Not that i think it would ever be deafult, since then all "popular" mods would want in on the cake, increaseing download size. Thats why they only include 3 maps to...
Offcourse, downloading what you want dosen't take long.
Meh, SY's game, SY's call.
Now, for balance issues, you could start a treadh over at TAuniverse, since most veterans are over there. Most OTA balance issues are both in TA and Spring.
Oh, and XTA plays just fine, thank you. The level 2 stronger system removes alot of tatics, since level 1 units are just for that, early combat. But it adds a great deal to. For example, leveling up at the right time when you have the right resources, and early level 1/2 play, where OTA like armys of level 1 duke it out with support from hevier units. Then the gameplay takes a twist, the level 2 armys gets going. The one stuck in the past still building level 1 will notice how behind he is and must hurry to build level 2 defences/attack power.
Most RACE TO LEVEL 2 is cuz every single metalmap, and big maps where level 1 is to slow to be used fast, where only zippers, weasels and Level 1 gunships. The combination Big map/low rez would work, but right now, it's more commen to complain when playing pincushion remake and say "Stupid map, there is no metal!"
That sentence make me cut myself.

The problem is:
Straight OTA simply doesnt work. Just 2 points: Radar targeting and non-fireing through allied units.

Noone plays them because noone shoves the DL link into thier faces.

OTA is still fun altho radar targetting without facility is annoying its still good. anyone who misses units firing through each other is a idiot. in spring slashers in OTA are no longer OP just good and expensive, its loadsa fun still although the defenders are a bit on the large side who cares? its a damn fun game but noone plays it, i only get the occasional game with nobody :'(

Bleh, OTA owns xta. AA is a mod that closely resembles OTA.
Hell, I STILL prefer ota to spring, but its easier to find a spring game. If someone actually wants to get together and help bring ota back its glory on spring, I wouldn't mind helping out. I played ota online on the zone for over four years, so I know how to play and I know whats good. I know what units work, what units are useless (and yes, in ota there were some useless units. Well, I wouldn't say useless, maybe unused due to many reasons)
So yes, if people are interested, I would be glad to lend my help.

AA still has the Uberhack features that make it markedly different from OTA. For example, it has the air-only SAM missiles. That really changes the early game.
A "tweaked" OTA with minimal necessary rebalancing to accomodate engine changes would be nice.

the engine changes BALANCE OTA! know OTA has extremely good balance!!! without slasher swarms OTA makes sense, XTA is fun + popular and has some cool features, but there is NOTHING wrong with OTA atm. it just seems weird having arty with less range than xta etc. it is in fact balanced

Already done. The product of that examination and ironing is called XTA. At least in the SYs view.

Personally I've really fallen in love with UH + TLL. I like AA, but to me it just doesn't have as much flavor as XTA does. Too many AA units feel like they were added because they were just cool, and often times you end up choosing between two or more equal options that really are just kind of redundant, whereas in XTA every unit feels very right in it's role, and there is really nothing that is all out useless. UH + TLL avoids the redundancy problem by just not adding things that just are cool and keeping a fairly stringent OTA balance. It ends up working quite well, and the extra team is just icing.

I think the point is that old TA fans want a minimalist retweaking of TA - basically "make it work well with Spring and nothing else" so that they can play Spring without feeling like they don't know anything anymore.

as i said it works FINE the ONLY problem of ota balance was SAMSON SWARMS now they can be used but far less effectively and can be beaten. admittedly units can't fire through each other but this balances out porcing vs expansion. Spring OTA fucking pwns PLAY IT FFS IT DOES'NT NEED A 'REWORK'!!!!!!!!!!!!!11!!1!1!!!!1!

min3mat, how old are you?
Your posting constantly reminds me of this bash quote:

Heh, IMSabbel; I've actually linked that
exact bash quote to min3mat before.
... evidently he hasn't realised that noone actually listens or reads anything he says, and that noone will until he improves the way he communicates to that of a literate person.

Isn't there supposed to be a space between no and one?
But TLL and UH is a pretty rocken combo.
