[spring 91] unable to load "creating tree drawer"

spring 89(from lobby) had no problems loading before, but after finally giving in to spring lobby's prompt I installed the new version.
now the engine crashes every time it gets to "creating tree drawer".
I don't know why this would happen, and since I don't want trees anyway it really bugs me that it would crash on something I don't want to even load.
it does this on any map, with any AI.
the crash emits no message box and simply closes. the task is not in the task manager afterward so it did not hide the window.

search found this:

When i restarted my computer and tried to play spring it hung on "treedrawer". That was righted by simply turning off 3D trees.
if not, post this file:

I turned off the trees. that only stops the MSVC++ error from appearing; the game crashes without a message after that. strangly,
I can get zero-K to run just fine but neither the spring-lobby nor the evo-rts package spring 91 distributions work.
not much info but here's "infolog.txt"

EDIT: it works in windowed mode, but most textures are missing. I have no idea why it crashes in fullscreen.
EDIT2:Desura version of evo-rts now works if gaphics are set to minimal and "safemode" is enabled(from panel).
EDIT3: sorry, I didn't know spoiler tags didn't work and I had no idea how to fix the post

Please remove the infolog contents from your post and put them on pastebin.com and provide us with the link.
You have ATI. ATI and OpenGL are not friends. Make sure you have bumpmapped water turned off.
