Spring RTS Engine

They're really needed, things can get quite obscene. Maybe if you just give moderator rights on it to a few trustworthy forum members we can help keep the peace.

Sounds like a great idea. At very least people need the ability to create thier own moderated channels so if someone is being a pensi in the main channel people can just avoid them.

This comes up once in a while, does it not? Seems like a great idea to me! Now who's kind enough to be a mod...

I'd be willing... I'm on all ungodly hours so I'd fill spots that most other regs don't, and I often just hang around and spec games when I'm bored/doing other things. I'm sure lots of other forum regs would be up for it as well.

What we really need is a moderator interface in client though.

It's IRC, regular IRC moderator/op/hop files and setups can be used.

As far as I know the lobby server uses it's very own protocol that has little to do with irc.
But I agree this kind of spam is extremely annoying. At some point we'll be forced to do something about it, and seeing how spring has grown in popularity over the last few months, I don't think that point is far away.

The client is not in any way shape or form related to IRC, except in how it looks. Absolutely everything else is different.

If its not IRC, then why dont we implement IRC? its not a hard protocol to implement and would allow this and many more custom options?

Yes, seems reasonable. I just think we should make it IRC, and get a coupla mods (its very very easy to set up various levels of mod-ship in IRC and could be possible to tie with experience?) I think quieting annoying people is the main priority.

i'd go for muting annoying people. swearing etc is fine, racial abuse or laughing at america for having a hurricane etc isn't

TASClient is NOT IRC!!! Go implement the stuff you want in the java server and C++ programmed client if you want mods...
