New LWO format not liked by 3DO Builder

On the subject of asteroids, someone linked me to some great asteroids in LWO format, that can't be imported into Wings3D or 3Do Builder, any suggestions on getting these things in a compatible format?

I seem to remember someone saying they had to be in the version 6 format or something.

well... how do I change it to that? :P

I had to convert them to .dxf format first as the 3do builder app only execpts dxf models

textures were default and drawing distances need to be fixed

I used Quick3d to convert the model available from here http://www.quick3d.com/

My thoughts exactly! it must be a GIANT SPACE DINOSAUR BONE! either that or the MST3K research lab kinda thingy...

Personally I think it looks like a bone too, but it is, in fact, a legitimate asteroid. You people have asteroid stereotypes, but this is probably common so I will probably use one of the rounder models...

When I acctually bother to do something other then playing Spring:AA or Metroid Prime Pinball.

I think we're used to spinning thigns that have jagged surfaces close up, not smooth things like that.

I believe that that asteroid was mdoelled from radar readings, which arent going to show up as much jaged features if it was taken from an earth based dish.

yeah... if we could "uv map" or whatever "make the texture stretch across the surface" textures... then it would look better, cause we could just stretch a mooney/asteroidy surface on it...

*noob idea* use a displace map with a noise texture on the surface. Would create quite a few polies though.

I ams REALLY BAD at map making, but if someone could UV map some pretty textured, medium poly, about twice as big as a mex (aka big enogh to fit a mex inside it without seeing it) and then make a new model for a mex that would fit inside thise asteroid... maybe a couple models of the asteroids, in the 3so format... as discused here http://taspring.clan-sy.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=2639

and maybe a nice UV mapped planet...

we could probably make some AWSOME space maps.

once we get this stuff:
http://taspring.clan-sy.com/phpbb/viewt ... 7&start=20

in the "official" build then it will be really awsome

I'd do it myself but I REALLY SUCK at modelling

Example of my attempt at making a Asteroid Miner:

sinbad, see the last post in that thread I made about my code changes.
It fixes a lot fo what aGorm wanted exept for forcing features to be upright with the upright tag

Yah and Zaphod has added the changes to the 'official build' or at least the cvs.

So anyone with internet and cvs is sorted....
