he has got

3.2ghz amd 64bit
BFG geforce 6800 GT OC

He has just done a format on his pc...

Get him to try this, open the settings program turn all the features down or off, then if Spring loads start turning them back up one by one.

interesting...
good PC + graphics card, windows XP...yet not even singleplayer works
1. put all options in 'settings' (in ur spring dir) off or lowest, try again
2. dl latest graphics card drivers (i think u need the forceware from nvidia.com for a FX, thats where i got mine from) repeat 1.
if that doesn't work, court martial ur PC for not having spring work and sentence it to DEATH, by BSOD :D:D:D:D...no seriously! and for the crime of being better than my PC :P

1.Tried it, no change.

2. I can't use the latest graphics drivers including any of the 7x.xx series, I get 0.03fps in all games with the latest.

I get around 100 fps in all games at 1024x768 with 8xas and 4aa, with these drivers 67.03 which I'm currently using.

Geos dont appear until after you press enter, try a map without any. It isnt a solution but it may give us a clue.

Geos has nothing to do with it as it occurs on every map.

I just tried every single script for single player. I found one that doesn't crash when I press enter and it's called:
Empty Script.

Well this'll most probably be the problem anyway. Unlucky.
