Getting Unit models into other standard 3D formats.

I'm wanting to make some of the TA units out of wood/plastic, or other materials. I need to get the unit files as DXF if possible, but OBJ, STL, is not.
I think i'd benifit most from knowing HOW to do this, then i can grab models and tinker around. I just made Barricade (The Police Car) for my 5 yr old, from wood, and my Wife suggested i turn it into a series. I figure if my children are to have any chance at success in life, they better be playing with Mahogany "Bulldogs", or atleast a Pinewood dirby car shaped like a Jeffy.
My modeling tool is Sketchup, but from what readin i have done, i recon this process would require something like wing3d to open the model, and possibly export/save them into another format.
Thanks ahead of time for the help.
