segmentation fault on spring start (Kubuntu 10.4)

I recently upgraded to Kubuntu 10.4 (also updated the Software sources for spring). Now I'm having troubles running spring.

The lobby doesn't even start spring and infoLog.txt has nothing interesting.
I tried running spring from command line and was able to select mod, map and script but when I press "test the game" it crashes with a segmentation fault!

This is what I get in console:

Code: Select all

Segmentation fault
i think this has to do with ubuntu 10.04 new ATI driver, cube 2 has a problem with ati too after 10.04 upgrade.

yeah.. you both have the same card and same driver.
well... looks like ATI + Linux just got worse again with the new Ubuntu then.
.. who would have guessed!

Just an update:

I can play some mods on 82.5 :-) , but BA still crashes at start-up.
I didn't update my drivers so something must have been fixed/changed in spring.

when reporting crashes, send whole infolog as file attachment or through pastebin.ca with your forum post (do NOT paste the text of the file in here, do not give only part of the infolog, and give infolog.txt, not command line output, if possible).

Try turning off AA, that's what made mine crash!

THANK YOU!!! :P :P :P

That worked!
It's the AA.

I still see a weird behavior though. When I try to build something the screen goes gradually to a solid green until I cannot anything. When the building is done I start to see everything again. Must be something related with the commander build spray. Maybe I can fix it with some other option. If I find the solution I'll post it here.

edit: If I set the max nano simultaneous particles to zero the screen does not go green.

Glad it worked for you, really needs a sticky thread to tell ATI users to turn off AA (why that doesn't work is beyond me).

I also have the weird green circle problem, but only on the minimap.

the solid green error is some widgets. some redui components were an issue for me and one to do with factory queues but because it annoyed me so much i turned all of mine off.

in game press F11 to view widgets and turn each one red while building to find the culprits

It's red minimap!!!!

I can confirm that the problem with the screen going green while building is the red minimap.

I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 with ATI and everything else goes great. I'm using the proprietary drivers.

What is AA and how do I disable it?

AA = Anti-Aliasing

In SpringLobby go to Edit > SpringSettings

In SpringSettings under the "Render quality / Video mode" tab, all the way to the right there is Anti-Aliasing options, make sure both boxes are unchecked and the slider is at 0.
