I'm not sure if this counts, but CA's Unit Guide has been translated into a plethora of languages. :-)

Many of those are not frequent on the internet/online gaming.
I bet there are more people speaking Finnish (5 million nation) than Hindi + Arabic + Bengali + Malay together.

so what happens when your game is updated with major changes. It is already a bitch to update a game guide but to have to update it in several languages as well.

I believe you are mistaken, though I will not take the bet on principle. Wikipedia has Arabic at 13.5 and Malay at 14.2 million each, as of 2004 in a conservative estimate. Finland, in contrast, clocked 2.8 million users. Arabic alone has an estimated ~40 million primary speakers on InternetWorldStats.Com though their sources are not reputable.

I assume somebody runs it through Google Translator again, for many projects on and off Spring.

There are different ways to measure the most widely spoken languages. One way is to count number of people who speak it as a first language only. Another is the number of people who speak it as a first or second.

You should be targeting computer users, not merely people in general. Global internet adoption is still estimated below one quarter of the global population, and it is strongly weighted toward developed nations.

I see that the Malay and Polish translations are functionally incomplete.

Then why say anything? You're not contributing anything to the discussion, in fact you're detracting from it, by stating that you have some use but are unwilling, rather than logistically incapable, of performing this service.

Counter-derail! We have indeed been featured in a Brazilian blog and we're pulling a huge number of downloads. Interestingly enough, though, few of the Brazilians who do play play with non-Brazilians.

Nothing in your post or the deliberation of the thread implied that, but yes, there are almost seventy Finns and less than fifteen of said groups combined here, or there were when I last counted.

Localization might be useful if you have many players (so that you have language based community). Spring doesn't.
Even if, most online games are mixed languages. So player end up with English if they want to communicate with each other.
Translated unit descriptions only help in single player. You need to know the English names and categories or you might not understand what others are talking about.
I don't see an advantage in translations.
