It's run by conservatives. The (US) is just to indicate I am not talking about the British Conservative party, given my location. Not really related to the bible stuff; but what are US conservatives trying to conserve, and US liberals trying to liberate?

Not denying they're nutjobs, but they're not really "hiding under a conservative banner". The founder of Conservapedia and the leader of this project is a son of Phyllis Schlafly, who is a reasonably highly regarded conservative figure.
