Once upon a time... -Voice chat and spring-

Once upon a time there was a teamspeak server for spring players called http://teamspeak.unknown-files.net. This has long since vanished, I checked the FAQ but didn't see a replacement. Is/Can Spring officially endorse a public server or program (teamspeak, mumble) that can be posted to the lobby when players join and added to the FAQ? There are many free pubs out in the world that you could choose, just and official endorsement would be good so we can get on the same page as others who wish to talk rather than type while playing. Apologies if there is one and I missed it somewhere...

Yes, I believe the bolded connotation in peet's message did the trick, but thanks for being extra careful

Perhaps post text in bold could be bumped up a little as it isn't very clear. A few css modifications should do the trick, probably a 1 liner.

*shrugs* sorry I missed it. I asked some poeple in #main last night and was just ignored. Maybe add it to the FAQ as well?

I have trouble remembering stuff so here's a trick I use. Whenever I want to remember the teamspeak server for spring, I just think of the atomic bomber in Complete Annihilation, it has the same name.

Would this be a good time to promote CA ?

Ill take that as a yes :-) . The CaDownloader which you can find here --> http://trac.caspring.org/wiki/CaUpdater will automatically join you to the server, then to a game specific room when you join a game.

It'd be really neat if Spring could have integrated voice chat.

Joining separate servers is a pain, especially when it's not on a per-game basis.

you'd need to make it simple to use, and I mean simple. World In Conflict and all source mods have it, but it's not used that much even in those. In world in conflict, it's because you can often barely hear it over the sound of the gameplay, and in source mods, it's because if you can't play, people don't talk, if you can, they don't need to.

rule #1 do not ask in main, when people are talking ask them they will respond in 90% of the times, or ask me, i always response :P

That's true, but that totally depends on the players, and isn't much of an argument against not implementing it.

Though rare, there are plenty of occasions where people use their mic's to a useful purpose. From what I can tell, it's most common in more team-oriented games like TF2.

It also needs to be clearly noted, so people actually know how to use it.
I can't even remember what key it is to voice chat in WiC anymore, and only remember it's K in the source mods because I played way too much zombie panic ("Get to the blue house, now! Go Go Go Go Go!")

It is integrated..
SpringDownloader auto connects you to server and auto puts you into teams with your allies..
It works for like 4 months now..

One thing I've had trouble getting answered on that, does the torrent system work like a normal one? As in will I be seeding maps for other players?

Ahh cool, I'd love to be a good samaritan but my connection makes it unfeasible.
