The Wiki for MAP's has been updated by Me.
Dont go editing out my name, or I will cause everyone to hate you!!
Feel free to read, make maps.
Also if you can speel better than me (spot the mistake...) please feel free to edit it to remove the mistakes! I have a back up copy on my machine so If someone thinks its funny to remove large chunks then
1) your an idiot
2) I'll just put it back
Anyway, enjoy, and download my maps!!

No no no. Please don't do that! The whole point of a Wiki is that any body
can edit it, with or without your permission =) The community does what it thinks is best. If you have some mindless vandal coming in destroying you stuff then you need to get an administrator to sort it out - if you paste an old version of the content back in they can just delete it again... meantime all the updates and edits people have done to your original will have been lost. Everything Wiki is central - it's all backed up. If it gets vandalised we can hopefully go back to the last good version without using out of date backups on peoples own machines!
Matter of fact I was just about to delete almost your entire page and edit the little bit that was left ;-)...
Not because I have any problem with the content, it was just in the wrong place. We already have a "create maps" page, which is where that stuff should go. As it happens, I was half way through the edit when I discovered somebody else was doing the same thing at the same time (maybe you)!
Imagine if you come in "restoring" the page with your own backups!!
For a Wiki to work, you have to trust people =)
Cheers
Munch
PS if you're bothered about your name being removed, get yourself an account on the Wiki (see "My Pages" links at the bottom of any Wiki page). It's really handy to be able to see who's edited a page so that you can ask people e.g. why did you delete almost all of my page? So good on you for putting your name on =)

Ahh, well i moved it myself!! So no worries!!
I did'nt mean dot edit it, add all you like. I ment that if some git decided to remove it I had a back up! Once others have updated it i'll prob make a new back up so its alway ready, as the problem with it is that some random idiot can just come along and go "delet". Which is rong. Very rong. (as is the spelling of wrong)
Thats was all i ment about changing it!

The point is that the wiki itself backups the page and all previous versions of it, you can't really destroy the information once it is in there. (Well, I can probably. :)) So it is easy to go back to a previous revision using the wiki software itself, you don't need to copy&paste it from some other source.

Realy... I must have a closer look at it...

Mongus you are a star. That's what I should have said! aGorm, I'm so sorry - I was so busy getting on my high horse (and most likely falling off the other side) that I didn't even say "Thank you" for posting such a great page! Wow I can be so dumb sometimes.
We need more stuff like this -it's what makes the Wiki work. And thanks for being so good natured about my grumpy reply.
Forgive me?
Mr Grumpy

Check out the page history aGorm. You can find any version of the page that was ever edited, so if someone deletes it, you just need to look in the history, and then copy and paste :) .

aGorm has made our world a better place.
Anyways, im having trouble. This is probably my l33t n00bishness, so i didnt think it worthy of creating another thread.
Using GIMP and Sharp map, with the 3 maps at the correct sizes, i get this in Sharp:
Initalizing Texture map...DONE!
Splitting Texture Map...DONE!
Processing Tiles...Creating Tile Bitmaps...
Writing Tile Bitmap Temp000.bmp
DONE!
Processing Heightmap...Heightmap Problem!!
DONE!
Processing Features...DONE!
Saving Map...
Creating Minimap...
System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not find file "C:\Program Files\strips\mini.dds".
File name: "C:\Program Files\strips\mini.dds"
at System.IO.__Error.WinIOError(Int32 errorCode, String str)
at System.IO.FileStream..ctor(String path, FileMode mode, FileAccess access, FileShare share, Int32 bufferSize, Boolean useAsync, String msgPath, Boolean bFromProxy)
at System.IO.FileStream..ctor(String path, FileMode mode, FileAccess access, FileShare share)
at SharpMap.MapMaker.SaveMap()
Saving map bad!!
I get the .sm2 file, but no others. When i tried to play the map, spring crashed (but this may be down to me just nicking the core prime .SMD and re-naming it).
And how do i view an SMD?

With Notepad.
Open an existing .smd with notepad, see what's inside, and read the spring news and changelog on spring site to check for any new tag, and copy.

Sharpmaps the map maker from buggi right?
If so:
System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not find file "C:\Program Files\strips\mini.dds".
There isn't aloud to be a space in the file direktory.
=> move it out of Program Files and in to Programms or something

ive moved strips (C:\SHARPMAP\), but then a new strips directory is simply created in its place. Can i change where sharpmap puts the processed textures?
thanks for your help, btw

move the whole sharp map folder to teh root, and it will work.

this thing is driving me insane
i have tried every combination of roots and folder loactions i can think of, but im still getting the same error. i once got an 'error compiling map' message, but apart from that its been the ms-dos window saying 'reading C:/program files/strips/mini.thing', and then the previously posted error.

C:/program files/strips/mini.thing',
Look in the path of that. Its says... "Program files". Move everything, including images, sharp map, the whole caboldle, into a folder with no spaces in teh root of C:/
Thats all I can suggest... PM buggie if it still fails (he made the softwear)
