Excessive mutes in #main

That's the current mute list in #main. Yeah, those million second mutes are 20 days long. I think this might be a bit excessive. I know Magus's mute was for posting goatse. I wasn't there when these guys were muted but I'll quote Daywalker:
<[WarC]DayWalkeR> im muted for 20 days :<
<[SmuG]tombom> haha why
<[WarC]DayWalkeR> i said fuck yes and it has terraformin' n shit
<[WarC]DayWalkeR> while trepan was watching
<[WarC]DayWalkeR> gg
<[SmuG]tombom> trepan is excessive sometimes imo
<[WarC]DayWalkeR> ye
<[WarC]DayWalkeR> i mean 20 days
<[WarC]DayWalkeR> ~________~
<[WarC]DayWalkeR> sleksa too
<[SmuG]tombom> it's ok to play an incredibly violent game but don't swear there might be children watching!!!
<[WarC]DayWalkeR> he said shitcocks
<[SmuG]tombom> haha
<[WarC]DayWalkeR> do /mutelist #main
<[WarC]DayWalkeR> ~~
<[WarC]DayWalkeR> he muted a bunch of other people too
<[WarC]DayWalkeR> for saying zomg trepan nazi
First of all, I think it's pretty silly to mute for 20 days for saying "fuck" in a public channel. Maybe if it's a constant thing, but I imagine the majority of 10+ people know pretty much every swear word under the sun and it doesn't really matter. They'd be playing a highly violent game anyway. I understand it's one of the rules, but still.

Second, I really don't think a multiple week mute is really warranted in any case. It seems really excessive and isn't really solving anything. It's also applied pretty haphazardly ie whenever a mod happens to be looking at #main.

I think 20 days for saying fuck is overkill, that used to be 30 minutes or so. The first 20 day mute I saw was Kai_T for constant harrassment, if 20 days are becoming standard for even minor infractions what's left for the really bad things? Hell, even the usual shock sites didn't bring in more than a few hours until recently.

It reduces the chance of said person to become a repeat offender in #main for about 20 days (on at least one account) however.

Yeah its kind of too much, whats wrong with fuck word anyways, isnt it illegal to say only when its used in offending way? like if i say "fucking big apple", its not offending anyone, just a word to tell how big it is, yeah there are other words, but people like that word more.

Imagine in 100 years the fuck word has been replaced with frack word, like they uses it in some new TV-series now. And how stupid is that? And then again someone gets offended by that word and then it gets banned, and then people makes up new word again, etc etc and so on, how stupid is that? huh... think it... we just need those words.

IMO if its not used in offending way, then it should be allowed to use.

Not writing a word cant be that hard, can it? :) Beside, we play spring for free so I think mods deserve the right of forbidding us of using certain words...

I would choose forbidding single characters used as words (R, U, Y, 2, 4) before swear words personally :P

I always give some sort of warning (e.g. a :|) before kicking or muting people, unless it is an obvious or egregious offense.
