Really, now.

Firearms are a basic right. Give 'em to everyone who can afford it. Natural selection gets aided, just a bit.

Which one shall we address first? I vote for the role of firearms in U.S. society.

Firearms ARE US society. The...possesion...of them is what allowed our successful rebellion. The Government apparantly noticed this.

Bada-Bang, Second Amendment.

We're just a violent people.

I like how every discussion about firearms is a discussion about American law.

I'll start then. I think an armed populace is a good idea.

First, firearms are the great equalizer. A woman with a gun can defend herself from a man trying to rape her, for example. Even if he has a gun as well, the woman is still better off than she would be if neither of them had a weapon.

Second, firearms allow the overthrow of an opressive government. Hopefully none of us will ever have to do that, but the option is there.

Third, and least important, is guns are used for sports like target shooting and hunting.

Of course. It's a controversial hotbed.

However, I support it, for the same basic reasons provided by Decimator.

A man with a gun can shoot a burglar breaking into his house. Really great laws you have.

Or, you know, he could not break into my house?

There's some sort of 'No Trespassing' law here that puts you in the right, once he's on your property, to shoot him.

So, those kids on your Lawn? Aim for the knees.*

While I don't believe that armed populations necessarily have a net edge over unarmed populations, I believe that in the United States an armed populace is acceptable, given that those who use firearms are licensed and licensing is a little more rigorous than it is presently.

Licensing for purchase and use should require, minimally, a two week course where an instructor sanctioned by the government grants delegated legality to his students. Ideally I would advocate having all those who wish to license go through an adaptation of Basic Training which lasts for the same period of time but is focused less on chain of command/physical training and more on gun and equipment use/care.

This grants the rights guaranteed by the second amendment and should offer a greater general competence than currently exhibited by the armed populace.

Sangue, that's basically what the "shall issue" laws are like though. If they can't think of a good reason not to allow you to have a concealed carry permit, you can get one. I think "not even a year old" would qualify.

I would like to note before we move along to the discussion of the nature of the female in relation to the male that the studies I was operating on for the points of pain tolerance have since been overturned by better methodology in research, and I will be reversing my argument on that point. Men have been observed to have a higher general pain tolerance and pain threshold, though hormonal changes during pregnancy do offer a great increase in the female capacity for each.

Nah a buckshot right in the face. That's gonna teach them a lesson, if they survive the second shot of your double-barrelled self defense stick.

Interesting. More or less, you can surpass limits if you have a strong, determined mind.

(Seriously, what are you supposed to do? Reason with him? Ask politely for him to leave? Call the police and wait half an hour for them to show up?)

Generally, yes. Willpower lends you a lot of leeway. In the arena of pain, however, sexual thoughts apparently allow you to increase your capacity for it temporarily, according to some recent research.

well there's good and bad ponits for guns obviously. If some bastard breaks into my house Id love to have a gun to shoot him, there's been some really nasty home invasions allover the news recently...

BUT with the amount of F#$^% stupid brainless idiots in the world today, the thought of an armed populace scares the shite outta me, and is pretty much a horrible idea imo.
I'll just train martial arts and take my chances against the burglar with the samurai sword I keep under my bed. :)

Failing that I'll employ cabbage the "vegetable warrior" and peace "the swedish weapon" to protect me.

The whole "guns for everyone" thing really seems to be working out for America
