8000 series and dynamic water

This happens with any 8000 series video card. It is a real bummer, I upgraded my card all excited about dynamic water and better frames. :\

You have the funny white lines too?
(And apparently a lot of water corruption)

I have the same problem on my 8800GTS. I'm assuming its a driver issue, but its still not resolved even with the latest drivers (158.19 on XPSP2)

Its not a driver issue. Its a spring issue.

it really is frustrating, I actually got this card so I could enjoy spring moar and the drivers are A S S I N A B O X O F A I D S!!

The drivers arent to blame here, this is a software issue, a spring issue, a renderer issue, where's SJ when you need him.

Heh, say what ya want but I still could see better performance, the square shadows are fixed now with these newer drivers and yet I still have somewhat slower performance then I should when all things are considered.

Why is it springs fault if something that works on older cards dosn't work on a new one? I just don't get the logic here.
Corporate a$$holes and other stupid jerks nuking backwards compatibility for more profit, make the old stuff stop working so more people buy the new crap? Someone enlighten me..

The new cards (8800 and 8600 series) use a whole new arcitecture. Hence, they are not as forgiving in code errors the developers have made.
But when it comes to backwards compatibility, they only support strict standardized stuff. Therefore some bug in the renderer which is ignored by previous generation cards end up causing glitches in these new generation cards.
You must remember, when i talk about generations here, this is the biggest leap in gpu design probably since 3d addon cards first entered the market. The whole design of the GPU is drastically changed to work as good as possible in modern gfx engines and modern 3d APIs' like DX10

This issue arose *before* the 8xxx series cards came on the scene.

The dynamic water never worked on my x1600 series radeon either...
I turn it on, no drop in fps, no fancy water either... just the same ole same ole reflective water...

dynamic water has always been nvidia only.

oh....
fucking nvidia.
stereoscopic is nvidia only,
dynamic water is nvidia only
better performance is nvidia only...
better stability is nvidia only...
open gl is nvidia only...
free cookies are nvi....
aaaahhhh
but amd bought out ati and are merging the vpu and cpu onto integrated chips....
should be nifty, but both chips are fail anyways...
damn the expensive nvidia cards! lol
revenge is ours!

Sort of like intel adding gpu instructions to cpus out later this year?

SHUT UP!!! no... no no no!
lol
its ok, I'm planning on getting the new abit board, and the 8800 w/ the H2O cooled block around christmas with a new intel quad core anyways..
I'll add the other 2 gigs of ram I have too

I am Zpock I don't jump to wild conclusions.

The AMD "Fusion" GPU + CPU project isn't going to be anything spectacular anyway, its going to be a replacement for integrated graphics that uses less power. The Intel "Larrabee" project may not even be a GPU, especially since its going to be X86. I suspect its going to just be a badass stream processing FPU for supercomputing type applications.
Anyway, Smoth are you running Windows Vista or XP? I was going to try dynamic water on my 8800GTS but I decided I didn't care that much, and then it died

I still have to call eVGA and get em to ship me a replacement.
As far as ATI performance in Spring, yeah I agree its annoying. The "pink build box" bug is still happening on my XP box w/ a X800XL. (On the second and above page of stuff available for build the top left box is pink) Unless some of the developers get some ATI cards I'll bet it'll suck. And I don't think they'll get ATI cards until their Linux drivers substantially improve. They've gotten better but they're still poor compared to Nvidia.

I am running xp and the pink box thing is only on ati cards... those things fail soo hard. Don't get me started about them and skyboxes
