There's a third party race in development, so I've heard. It's "not nearly complete", according to some random guy.

I'm very likely going to try to get GEM running on SupCom. The problem with Spring is that the hitboxes are nonexistant. Spheres... holy cow. Get with the century... Not to say Spring's not a great engine and all, but you're limited to units that have identical height width and length dimensions right now. It's basically suited only to TA. Which is why all we have are TA mods and weird things like nanoblobs... any grand project is technically impossible.

You're a little disconnected from the 0.75 release featureset, the gigantic featureset that promsies to allow arbitrary game mechanics via lua. An entire reproduction of supreme commander would be possible within spring.

I think Caydr's right on this one, the lua changes are not likely to
provide the ability to use unit hitboxes (or provide any other means
to vary the collision detection). That's something that would need
more engine work.

For an RTS, more complicated hitboxes are just performance hogs I think. They don't add much really, for what it costs.

plus sphere hitboxes provide a lot of reliability of what to expect from units.
