Because P.U.R.E is broken, the website is squandered, and Argh is AWOL.

New players should never see this site, but I must point out the exception of games in development that arent ready, at which point its a hodge podge.

Otherwise I agree with you

Yep, the downloads page is still really confusing with the back and forth movement. Often the bare engine is what the new player should be getting when he wants to get ready to play. But with the knowledge how to get the actual game files after that.
In the very least, change the "Spring Engine Updates" into "Spring engine download"!

Though forest devil is right. This isn't a good site to advertise games.

Waiting for the new spring release Z, also note this phrase on the official site:

At the moment, Evolution RTS is not officially released, however you can grab the test builds (very stable) and play them vs other people online.

In other words, some assembly required. I'm waiting to do anything large and sweeping until the new spring version. It would be stupid and pointless to do it now.

Forb: If not released and if assembly required, then it has no place being listed amongst installers.

I disagree. A hundred small disconnected websites aren't as effective as a single centralised one.

Why do you think all the indies want to get on Steam instead of staying on their own unknown websites?

Rapid, Z. You telling me that it can't wait a single month until the new spring version is out? You're making a huge deal over a small issue. Would you prefer if I linked directly to the barebones installer on the spring site?

You're blowing this out of proportion.

How hard is that to understand?

Wether an individual dedicated site or a 100 free games bargain bin site works best, this site is not that site and never will be. The purpose of this site is already a big long list that most printers would have trouble trying to print, and is verging on being ineffective on all fronts never mind the game advertising front

Zwszg, given an implementation, would you keep it up to date and give your official blessing for a kernel panic website?

Until you can even attempt to acknowledge never mind answer that question rather than ignoring and avoiding it as you have done for almost three years, there is no point in taking you seriously on the issue.

The purpose of this site is already a big long list
When you are little, you stand no chance, you either die or get swallowed by a big one. Websites, games, and internet communities need a certain critical mass to stay lively. No Spring game, taken independantly, has it. And even if games strive to get their original gameplay, we share so much! Gadgets, engine bugs, lobby issues, etc.. are common. Mutualising the tool, support, and knowledge benefits everybody.

this site is not that site and never will be
I don't see what's wrong in expecting the Spring website to guide newcomers toward installing their first Spring game.

Depends if I like the url and technology! :P But don't expect much activity, considering how I failed to even post any news on ModDB.

This is good.

Actually, i want to change my opinion. Official Showcase should be Star Wars Imperial Winter. After all, it's got screenshots all over the site, even in the title banner. It was showcased in magazines. It's obviously the perfect flagship mod for Spring.

:P

Take a step back, think about how people learn about Spring: Most likely someone telling them to get Spring as a modern TA. A BA player inviting friends or strangers isn't going to point at something like Evo or KP, he'll point at the engine because what he wants the new guy to play is BA. As long as there is no Spring+BA+common maps installer (maintained by a third party, of course) these people will direct newbies at the engine download.

Spring + game (most importantly: with singleplayer and maps! The newbie must be able to get a game going with just that pack without even checking online) would be the "Gamer pack", pure Spring would be the "Developer pack" or maybe "Spring platform redistributable".

I just wanted to say that i think it's awesome that i can procrastinate from studying by making a minimalist game, then fuck off for a couple of years, and come back to this. Good work, everybody who is involved in kp.
