porcing = slow defensive expansion...

not

pocing = slow increase in defensive power...

if you are playing, say a four player teamgame, and your army just got spanked and your going to be focused on by the whole enemy team, flattened, then let all your allys be flanked, it is a far better idea to pull back a little and dig in with mines, LLTs and riot tanks and hold up your side as long as possible, because maybe the rest of your team have a chance of pushing foward and still winning, or taking the pressure on you. in those situations, continuing to play agressively will result in defeat.

porcing as a default tactic however, is somthing you do instead of playing the games.

-porcing works good for holding chokepoints
-dragon's teeth make artificial chokepoints
-remember that you can open and close your DT walls at will like a gate
-a failed attack leaves you piles of metal that are guarded by your defenses

so i vote viable tactic

I agree, if a boring one.

It's especially viable if you resurrect the wreckage instead of reclaiming and rebuilding.

Depends on the location and the execution of the porc. Creating a strong forward defensive line at a choke point can work well, especially if the enemy is relying on pressuring you into submission. But if you just stick yourself behind tight lines your economy will be out sped and you will quickly be dominated by tech you can't compete with.

In 2.11 the player Ninjak used to have a really defensive comet style where he'd make alot of build power and keep his base really LLT'd up as well as exploiters on half his mexes.

Since he had a whole bunch of cons he could reclaim all the wrecks very quick and tech very very fast. Which was an effective tactic in 2.11 when Gollies blew gators off the map.

Wtf has my post got to do with yours?

I was posting the "correct" way to do it...

we called it the "Core Creep" back in the day...

lots of goliaths with some artys and cans... slowly moving their defensive position forward about 6 inches at a time as reinforcements came in... the D-tower line became a D-tower net as you expanded, and if the other team broke a hole, and got in it... the towers effed them up, and you sent all reinforcements from the base to plug the hole before moving another step forward...

thats what I meant.

now chill.

That may have been before people actually got good at the game. That sort of strat won't work in the OTA of the last 4-5 years. ;)

Your seriously trying to argue that you know better than rANDY here?

In that case all I can say is host more sim base games of your own with some 2 stripe buddies that would like to play that way.

Stop this now. Thank you.

For the record, Lathan doesn't play Simbase nor does he play defensively. The offensive he outlined does not work currently against OTA players, however.
