Remember nobody can expect to have more than 5 units with this model under their control...... So shave poly count where posible but dont skimp on detail....

Or at least give us an unoptimized high poly version first.....

Um, what's with all the whining about the "skirt"?

Does nobody here know that:

A. It's an Anime thing. The Commanders are both really just Anime ripoffs... and not terribly inspired ones, either :P

B. It's an Anime thing because many artists were trying to suggest the "skirt" that is part of a Samurai's traditional armor:

... any more questions?

Chainmail my friend... Tough, durable, light, and mallable are all good descriptions...

I'm afraid I don't see the anime in the commanders...but if thats true, then people who like XTA, OTA and AA are all 'playing' animes. Which mean they have no reason to NOT PLAY GUNDAM!

Hahhahahahahahahah!

(Also why is everyone flipping out about the kilt? Its a kilt, damn it! The Core Commander is simply showing his scottish pride)

Um, the Core Commander doesn't look a lot like this? Down to, natch, the single glowing eye, the head styling, the anime-style armored shoulders, and ... get this... the "kilt"?

People who don't think OTA's art style was heavily influenced by anime (but limited mainly by polycount considerations)... are retarded.

Its cause the core commander is "hung" well and isnt afraid to show himself off.

And yes the core and arm commanders is obviously slightly anime to say the least, which I think is quite cool really.

Whats wrong with a armored skirt anyhow? Its fully functional, provides protection for (possibly) weak joints and doesnt restrict movement. Not to mention its a fashion statement of the future.

Not too long from now it will be cool for ALL teenagers to wear skirts, possibly, either that or those that do will be stoned to death.

OK, I'm pretty sure I'm done now.
I optomised the model as best I could while retaining a high ammount of detail.
Poly Count is at 2782, which shaved nearly 1000 poly off my origional attempt.

I also found out that the Origional Cavedog Cinema model of the Core Commander is well in excess of 6500 poly, every square edge is rounded/beveled and all the cylinders are at least 16 sided minimum up to 24, that model is insane.

Most Beveled Edges have been shaved, and as many cylinders as I could replaced with lower sided, I stuck with 8 sided or 10 for larger objects.
I think I got the head as close as I can get it too, so here it is.

Make the whole thign elss tall, make the torso bigger and the feet smaller, and the arms slightly shorter, and the joins on the upper to lwoer arms are still too much, make them smaller and make the 2 arm parts clsoer together as if they're joined together in a big armoured join, it looks weak and unusual

Polycount. Ignore it- you're already at an acceptable tricount ;)

It was about the number controlled by a player at once.

I personally like this work, so keep going. You're golden, as Argh said.
