I guess the difference is that that map doesn't come from a scanned source.

sometimes in life there are no 1:1 counter balances. Sometimes old tech is overall worse.

I think there is something about png format that makes it especially effective at dealing with images that are 'cartoon like' in that they have simply shaped regions of clearly defined colour.
