actually when u zoom out enough (on a big enough map and have your settings set low enough) the commander is replaced by its symbol.

That happens on every map, not matter how small. Once you hit a certen level of zoom, everything becomes Icons.

i guess that the feature's of spring is just not enough for this guy. he need's more!
look i dont think you can get much better then spring
you dont need a supcom clone
look to some other dev team that would appeal to the idea
but this is one team that does not

No! No! We can pretty much do most of the stuff in SupCom already, so we can have the mod made like that. Do remember, mods are not made by the devs, mods are made by modders, and engines are made by the devs.

My settings must be wrong, because I dont get any icons when I zoom out.

I think the "units turn into icons when zoomed out" depends on the mod.

no, unit turns into icon depends upon 1) the units footprint 2) the "Icon Distance" slider in settings. if you want to play supcom ASCII wars then turn the slider to 100 and watch those circles have it out. jesus. why do people WANT icons? now the PC has perfect 3d, everyone wants their games to be like old dos sidescrollers again.

When you zoom out too far you only see grey blobs anyway, icons at least tell you whose team those blobs are on, possibly even what units they are.

Because even a monster computer has limits.

You don't have to zoom out much to be unable to decipher what team the unit blobs belong to, icons are a good addition. Also you can just disable them if you don't like them.
