I still don't think this issue has been resolved. After hours of painstakingly combing the various GPL and licensing threads here's what I've been able to summarize:
some people have an inflated sense of self-importance due to their image of themselves as elite game designers and wish to protect their ground breaking work from thievery.
Others are thieving nazis who want to steal software and the credit for desiging it and gas jewish people.
let me know if I'm misunderstanding the situation.

Others are also people who willingly give away stuff they make and will go through the right channels. Since I am not OMG nazi and I MADE all my work I think you need to add a new category there.
