I'm almost ready to give up

THe mosiac tiling wasn't the problem. I've been working on this for 5 hours now. I think I'm done. This is only doing a good job of making me upset, and now I've wasted and entire night on it. It's simply not worth it.

Found the problem. I found the actual problem. This is really bad, because it's the attribues map. That pic is me zoomed in hardcore to the attributes map. Notice how the edge is not in the crosshairs? That's why I have a 65 pixel line. Because it has no idea that it's supposed to render there. The goddamned thing is the fact that I don't know what caused it to do that.

THe only thing I could come up with was that I rendered the attributes map using mosaic tiling. The even more annoying thing is that the heightmap and att map are linked in such a way that if the heightmap is tiled, then so is the att map and vice-versa. That's all fine and good, combining the tiels of the heightmap only takes a few seconds.

The thing that makes me map is the fact that I cannot (it's statisticly impossible for the most part) be the first asshole to decide that mosaic tiling is a neat idea. So why hasn't anyone else reported this problem? The only thing I can think of is the fact that very few of the mappers in this community that use l3dt use the light map, and most of them probably do not use normals mapping.

Anyway, all of that said... Does anyone have a copy of l3dt 2.3d pro? I would like to reinstall just because I'm to that level of frustration at this point. I will report back as to whether it's the mosaic tiling causing the problem or not.

<rant> Why am I always the first fucktard to experience these things?</rant>

I know it doesn't mean much from a no-name like me, but you've done a great job. Don't give up yet! :o

ok I'd like to point out that I've been working on this for 7 hours now.

I finally gave up on it, however, I exported the heightmap as an hff file (l3dt's native heightfield format. saves as 32bit). Reimported it, and everything seems to be working fine for some completely inexplicable reason.

Soon I'm going to bed to have a good cry.

I downloaded the first version, I don't think a white stripe will impair playability O_o...

Oh it was definately fun, no doubt. I played it myself, but seeing as how its a mappers responsiblity to find a fine balance between looks and gameplay. the white strip does affect the "appearance" aspect of the map.

<rant> If you have any more complaints... Blow me. 9 and 1/2 hours spent on fixing that fucking line. If you don't like it shut up and go to hell </rant>

On another note, you could just download it to make me feel better.

Noize, I'mma look into remaking the 12x12 if I can manage to make it look decent.

Forb, you are a persistant genius.

that's the main reason your maps are so good.

looking fwd to the 12x12, but don't stress too much over it.

Yeah, your maps rock. Consistently.
Spring would be all the poorer without them.

Forboding Angel,

Didn't mean to cause a big stink ... Your maps have
always made me think ... on how I could improve my maps.

As always, you can never please every body ... The only
thing you can do, is do your best and hope others like it ..

Keep up the good work ... ALSO ... next week is Turkey day ..
So ... Happy Thanksgiving ....

I played some NB Games (I lost of course - always loose in NB) on it and it is the Best "green" Map i have seen.
And i m running out of Praisprahses. You depleted the whole Storage of them. There are only old and outdated like - Superb or Great. I want for the Future a Praisphrase delivery with every Map.

mastermat wrote:The only reason you get so much critisisim, is because you are the BEST map maker in the community. and every single map maker strives to make a map as good as you.

so when you make a mistake, it comes at such a shock, that all everyone wants to do is help you make the map as good as it should be.

the best way for them to do that is to suggest how it could be better, even if it means giving a dumb idea like photoshoping the texture (like you wouldn't have tried that already)

I think the main problem is that you are so advanced in Map making that whenever you experiment with something new, the rest of the community is still thinking along the lines of the old method and can't comprehend what has happened

Please Keep up the Good work. I know that every map you make has a long process before you even start making it. and an even longer process before you release it. It's just hard sometimes to remember that when we look at your masterpieces.
+1 tbh
you rox at mapmaking.
