Not as much as real Metroid rocked. But yes, for an FPS, they do.

That suitless sequence in Zero Mission was the worst part IMO. It isn't what Metroid is. Nintendo seems to love throwing unnecessary stealth sequences into their games lately. These suffer from the same problem all aggregate games do, you have to like all the genres present in the game to like the game. I hate stealth and stealth sequences often make me stop playing the game.

Different strokes for different folks. I love stealth missions.

In a game that isn't a stealth game I'd rather not, with some exceptions (the Zelda games are all about doing everything conceivable, they work there) but I tend to like stealth games if I get them knowing what I'm going to be playing. Syphon Filter was one of my favorite series until they made it all run and gun.

I thought the no-suit sequence in zero mission was pretty neat. You didn't even really have to do it stealth, you just had to be really good at not getting shot
Plus it was a nice double reversal. You lose your suit and are suddenly just as weak as the space pirates ever were compared to full power suit. Then you get your varia suit at the end and kick 7 different kinds of ass.

I also like blonds, another deciding factor in the goodatude of that level.

If I want a stealth game I buy one of the many that are available (not that I want one, I sometimes try to like one that has gotten heaps of praise like the Thief series or NOLF but I always give up during or shortly after the first level), I don't buy a game about exploring a planet in a power armor. What I hate about stealth sequences is that they're almost everywhere now. You can buy a friggin Megaman game now and get stealth parts. I wouldn't mind nearly as much if enemies shot lasers from their eyes wherever they look or something because then I know what they see but in most stealth games I have to guess when he can see me and I always guess wrong (don't think I managed to clear a single room in Zero Mission without getting spotted). "Guess where you shouldn't be, guess wrong and you die!" Great. For stealth sequences I always use brute force as much as possible and kill everyone. Just so none of them accidentally sees me later. Not that I have much choice, I can't get past a blind man without being seen so killing everyone is the only option.
And don't get me started on melee weapons for stealth kills, how are you supposed to use them if you have to move slower than the enemy if you don't want to be heard and would have to move like three times as fast to reach him before he turns around? Screw that, I'll use the rocket launcher.

Me hates Stealth Missions, that are only made to force you to slow down. They appear in Games, that would have otherwise become to short...
But in Games were you have the Choice (SS2), or get worthy Storyelements in Return, i love them

My opinion says that having more ways to go through a level is for the win.
Do you go stealth, saving armour ,health, and ammo?
Do you run it and gun it to get it over with?
Do you harass them from a range then get in close?

Could be fun if some message would pop up in the end saying "CONGRATULATIONS, YOU SNEAKED THROUGH THE ENTIRE GAME! NOW GO PLAY IT AGAIN AND HAVE SOME FUN INSTEAD."
Nah I'd still shoot everything.

Uh...No one Lives Forever only had a few stealth missions. If you wanted to you could blow through nintey nine percent of the game with your AK-47 at full tilt. You should try that. It's suprisingly fun and funny. No One Lives Forever kicks ass even if you hate the gameplay, thats how great it is. But if you blow through it you miss the GREAT dilouge.
