This game doesnt really require much of graphics, and i dont mind runnign it on the lowest except for unit LOD. Im just wondering still if i should get 1gig of ram ( that does NOT include putting 512 of new ram with my current 512 of old ) and a Radeon 9550. Or 1.5ghz of ram.

ATI Radeon 9600PRO
Pentium4 1.7Ghz
1Gb RAM

Game run very fine 5v5, medium resolution.

So 1.5ghz of ram pc2700
or 1 gig and the 9550?
I'd assume your mainboard's memory bus and CPU FSB run at 133mhz, but the "DDR" aspect of the ram (as AF has said) makes the effective data rate of the ram the same as if it were 266mhz SDRAM.

For now if I were you (and I didn't have all my odd habits about hardware configurations) I'd just get the 9550 and see what happens. My brother's machine can run some pretty big 4v4 games fine with ground hit decals at max, number of sounds up pretty high and unit LOD not at lowest, its only got a 2ghz Athalon, a 9550 (/w 256mb onboard video memory) and 512mb of ram (though it is confidgured to run in dual channel mode (2x 256mb modules), which probably dosen't make much of a diffrence).

The limitations you're having are more than likely GPU related, rather than memory or processor.

always wondering how you got that low ass cpu %. And i'll be running on LOW res XD!! Good, thanks again hazard <3.

bare minimum for no lag - there is no such. If you have 500 airplanes per team, 5v5 match even if everyone had athlon 64 x2 5000+ and 2 gigs of ram and geforce 7950gx2 SLI, the game would lag horribly. Tells something about how much needed a complete rewrite of the pathfinding system is.

Airplanes don't use pathfinding.

I have a comp with:
128mb Geforce 6200
512mb rdRAM memory
P4 2.4 Ghz
it works great with almost everything enabled

but i also have a laptop with 32mb ati card and it works great...
EDIT:^256mb ram

and also a comp 32mb intel card and works good on every map but
speedmetal
EDIT:^also 256 ram

That really was not my point. But anyway, don't they also use some kind of system to determine where they can go and how to get there? Maybe the term pathfinding was incorrect but anyways, you get the point.

Got a GF2 64 mb, 256 mb ram, 1.2 ghz athlon tb and the game runs just fine with default settings in 1024x768 on medium sized maps as long as the global unit count stays below the 2000 mark and no one attempts to airspam 100+ units in my direction :P.

Yes they use some kind of physics combined with control logic.

Anyway, I posted that becaus I get a bit tired of everyone wanting a full rewrite of the pathfinding systems while it's one of the better parts of spring IMHO.

What's bad is collision detection and the invalid use of the pathfinder in certain cases, that gets units stuck into each other and bumping each other etc.

I have yet to find a bug or serious deficiency in the pathfinder.

But meh, I guess non-devs don't make such a clear distinction between different components...

Dr.InfernO's medical advise:
If you don't want to die by a lag infection, you should have at LEAST a 2.0Ghz Processor, or equvalent, otherwise you will be kicked out of my games.

But i have a 1.73ghz laptop which gets lower % then some peoples 2.0+ o_O; Pentium M>Pentium 4, in some cases.

Oldish athlons are also better than oldish pentiums, even though they have a lower clock rate.
