I think even though some users here prefer staying here, it would be for the best to point new players to balancedannihilation.org especially when the BAR content is 'finished' and an installer is made. I can only imagine how confusing it may be for someone new coming to the spring site looking for a specific game, then seeing all this talk about an engine and the development of it.

jw, is the site going to remain balancedannihation.org or will it reflect whatever the new name will be(I assume a new name is still planned)?

I agree, I think it is better for players and even for BA to start using a dedicated website.

The domain balancedannihilation.org will probably change and follow the name that BAR will get.

WordPress + BBPress can be blazingly fast, far faster than phpbb.

What we have here is not a BBPress issue, it's a perception/UI issue, so don't start blame the internals when the outer shell has pimples.

The actual page load of the forum html of the main index, is ~600ms, phpbb on this site it takes ~290ms, though this site has a much, much faster server.

I'm sure things could be done to speed it up, but without seeing source code and the admin area I can't comment any further. My main suggestion would have been adding W3 Total cache but it appears it's already installed

^^ This.

I just checked it myself and that forum loads every bit as fast as this one does.

Moreover, phpbb is a legacy pile of shit that needs to die.

It's a damn shame that IP Board costs money, cause it's pretty frigging spiffy. That said, there is nothing wrong with bbpress. It is a great forum system, it's just somewhat different.

Wow some positive vibration on this forum, that is nice :-)

I already did a bunch of things to speed up the website (it is my job btw), and W3 Total cache is also running on. Things can still be improved ofc.
But you are right, the server is not as fast as this one and the waiting time before the loading stuff seems to be bigger than here.

AF if you want acces to the admin area you are welcome. You should first create an account on ba.org. And after just pm me here or in the lobby (zorro or dude).

This site is running on a BEASTMODE server. It's no real shock that this site runs fast.

Can't it be hosted on this server?

ask licho about that... in general imo yes, as balancedannihilation.org is related to spring.

With the whole slowness of loading the background image, you could try loading a low quality, highly compressed image, first. Then load the high quality image via ajax and replace it. I have done this before and it works quite well.

So are all spring projects to be hosted here?

"Who cares" or "if you get consent by whoever is paying" comes to mind
may say that stuff that are important to the community, such as working and used games or tools would suffice but that's really not our choice

As long as they don't eat up a significant amount of the server space or cause too much load, I don't see why not. I'd quite happily pay a small fee to have some server space but Licho offered it for free which I was very grateful for so donated anyway.

Nice idea Petah.

About hosting ba.org here, I am ok if everyone is ok about that.

Is there still a problem with the website speed and such, and where is it now hosted? If not here, how much bandwidth do you expect it needs for fluid use?

tzaeru, there never was any real problem with the ba site being slow.

Ah yeah, sorry, must been way too tired yesterday and failed to read the thread properly.

Well, in any case, if there's a need for few hundred gigabytes of data stored (though if upload goes over 5 TiB in a month, rest of the month is with 10 mbs upload) or something performance heavy implemented, I've a half-unused dedicated server running.
