Re: Google+
The difference being that your data never leaves google unless you tell it to for whatever app or integration may arrive in the future, which is how its supposed to work.
Facebook on the other hand inches the privacy settings back bit by bit and puts advertisements in the middle of your UI

Re: Google+
Don't even get me started on the facebook apps, which most are just there to datamine you.
Re: Google+
Well google+ apps and games are on there way, they've found references in the source code. I dont mind it so long as there's no mass invite spamming and feed notifications
Re: Google+
because they run the personalized ads themselfUnlike facebook, google doesn't turn around and sell everythign about you to the highest bidder.

Re: Google+
wrong and only partly right.Forboding Angel wrote:Google doesn't try to make money form your personal data. That is the difference. Google tries to target you with relevant ads based upon your past searches.
with all (notable) services of google, you give them personal data (including your searches) and they make money out of it, specifically of this data, not by selling the service, even though this might also be the case, additionally, for some services.
they scan your emails to show relevant adds, they combine your email scans with what you search and with all other data they get from you through all their services, and then they sell this knowledge. not directly of course.. as they figured.. instead of selling it to someone else who would make money out of it, we just play this role ourselfs, and make more money.
now tell me, how is this in any way better?
when facebook sells your personal data to a 3rd party, there is a legal obligation for the contract between them to be as least as restrictive as the contract between you and facebook. in the case of google, the initial collector and the one reusing the data are the same company, so there are no restrictions at all. google is a commercial company. they are in the data gathering business, and they are arguably the market-leader, at least for data about the general public's personal data. they have the most diverse set of data about the most people, and they make money solely out of this, and they make a lot of money. if they can get more data about you, they get more ahead of their competitors ("ha!"), and they make more money.
this is all so very simple and undeniable, and nothing of it is illegal.
.... i mean... i'd like a pair o' these glasses too, maaan!! gotta be pretty, the world.Forboding Angel wrote:Google doesn't try to make money form your personal data.
Re: Google+
Google doesn't sell your personal data, it sells data about your personal data, amirite?

Ok I am finally in with google plus...
All I can say is holy shit. Google Plus is fucking awesome. From what I can tell it immediately outclasses facebook in just about every way possible.

Yeah, it beats facebook with a lead pipe.
Re: Google+
Well it really depends on what your friends are using. If your friends are using ICQ you are stuck with it, evne if its the suckiest IM that exists (my case).

If by "people," you mean "Rick Astley" and by "them" you mean "free performances of his hit single Never Gonna Give You Up," then yes, you're right.

I've got it now, and its interface is more cluttered than Diaspora's.
The only reason that I can see Google+ beating Diaspora is the inevitable consequence of Google+ being a project pushed by a major corporation and Disapora being by nature a federation of open-source protocols and individual servers.

so true. bounds that tie until you die. Thats why its so important to be the first with big spread audience. You dont even need to make good software. All you need is, to be there, to have thousands of people using you, who dont change there habbits, and to have all the features needed - then nothing can kill you.
Re: Google+
i hope by icq you mean clients such as http://www.miranda-im.org/ and not the original client?
that makes it bearable imo.

Lol how does someone as paranoid and anti-social as you end up on a social networking site? Talk about the ultimate oxymoronHeavyLancer wrote:I've got it now, and its interface is more cluttered than Diaspora's.

If you want invites to Google+, pm me your email address and I'll add you to my contacts and start sharing stuff with you. Supposedly that is supposed to hasten your assimilation.
Re: Google+
That reminds me of the chinese guy who kicked up a huge fuss about strangers commenting on his status being an absolute failure of google privacy
Last I checked the other Google+ people were saying he was deluded and it served him right for marking his profile and status as public, then he made some hissy fit commment and disabled commenting so nobody could respond
In other news, I think Google has a grudge to bear now Zuckerberg has the most followers on Google+ despite posting nothing:

PS: If you're already on there

Google+ ... the internet's biggest sausage fest
Re: Google+
a little paranoia and not beeing oversocoialized can be a good thing. Is a complex world out there, and if you dont try to understand it, and just swim with the swarm, you end up as a sardine in a tincan.Forboding Angel wrote:Lol how does someone as paranoid and anti-social as you end up on a social networking site?
