and that was the beginn of a late career as mass murderer, evil-doer and worlddom. Surely, all that never would have happend, if not one day, i was young, minding my own buisness, suddenly a strange girl ran into me, scaring my soul for live. ;)

:P And then in the land of star-made shadows, people threw cookies at you, your moral improved, and you were drove sane. Ok, I'll stop with the bad metaphors. That is not as the idea walking into a poetry group and reading bodice ripper pieces just to see the looks on the listener's faces. ROFL.

Actually, yes. George Walker Bush had less vote than Al Gore, and kept mentionning god in his speeches.
Gota wrote:Europe threatened by BUSH?When did bush threaten Europe?
When he said "You're either with us or against us!".

This implicates that the U.S undertakings are rational and all glory. I see a lot of purpose-orientated reasoning here...

Theres not much awesomeness in this documentary. It was mostly just history of warfare and politics faintly mixed with some superficial analysis of culture-evolution, human nature and psychology. It was lacking of good, deep hermeutical insight in to the overall phenomenan of war and its substance and causes - if that was what you were looking for.

... And there is nothing awesome in war either. It is just madness - unless you dont approach it in someway socialdarwinist perspective. While these kind of approaches may provide some theories to the historical progressions of socities, they are not able to give much satisfying explanation for example to the question why humans are so keen to exterminate and kill their fellow creatures (dramatically more than any other species on the planet) over no biological reasons but rather without sense or reason of direct evolutional benefit.
- What is then, the role of society or social control? What are the motives?

Yes the US was the rational side since it had free press and elections.

Yep, war is terrible and damage caused by it, despite what naive beliefs to the contrary say, often can't be completely undone or made better.

I think that, to some extent, war is unavoidable. If masses of people can hate other people to the point where they think that they shouldn't exist because of something silly like the way they dress or their accent, then reasoning can only go so far and, as much as we might like to simply lock away and attempt send people to therapy for being seriously crazy and violent (Most mentally unstable people in mental hospitals are not violent, scary, or dangerous, just crazy.), that isn't always an option.
SirArtturi wrote:- What is then, the role of society or social control? What are the motives?
The role of social control is meant to be an attempt to prevent chaos like in the Dark Ages.

What do you think?

Just to explain: In English the word "awesome" does not always mean a positive thing. It generally is a description of something that is "inspiring awe".

So I would have to say any one witnessing war will find it a rather awesome force, but maybe I am just pessimistic on humanity and assume war's natural occurrence.

War is the lazyness of societys to approach the future, and instead dreaming of keeping the comforts of the past, by sacrificing useless offspring for it.

Laziness? War isn't easy, although it may be easy to get unhappy people angry.

edit: I was going to throw in a Robert Heinlein quote but it doesn't seem to fit like I remembered, and somehow reminds me that he was a navy officer and probably jerked off to the concept of valorous soldiers marching to die for their country's political decisions.

The movie speaks of misunderstanding the mentality of the other side and thereby miscalculating what actions should be taken, amazingly this is still the case nowdays.

I find it interesting that a TV movie affected an ex actor president who was in charge of 300 nuclear weapons, while the Russians were convinced the US would launch and they only had about 8 minutes to react.
