Already been done. Doesn't help if none the servers run the AutoShields mutator.
I'm actually kind of sad that UT3 didn't catch on more. I find the gameplay to be the perfect compromise between UT2k4 and classic UT.

I play everything besides recon - sniper gameplay bores me to tears and I think I didn't collect a single point in that classe yet. Maybe that'll change if I decide to try the shotgun+slug combination even a recon can play. It's told to be an ass combination as it makes the shotguns accurate like hell even at longer distances...
The weapons I use ... well there aren't that many which are really good. I played with the XM8 as assault for a long while as you get it as 2nd weapon I think and it really is pretty good. The later assault rifles get better though and while I still have one or two missing I played with the AN-94 for a while which is superior thanks to slightly better stats and burst fire...
As an engineer there's no choice anyway - go for the AKS-74U. It's sort of strange that all the rifles coming afterwards are inferior to it. As rocket launcher I tend to use the Carl Gustav. Only on maps like that big desert map with the helicopters I switch to the M136 sometimes as the damage against tanks is way more nice...
As a medic ... well the M60 is sort of overpowered but I still think that it's just fair when looking at the one hit killers all the other classes have. When I notice that we're totally owning I switch back to the T88 or what it was though. It's also strange that all weapons after the M60 just suck. The XM8 version lacks firepower, the MG36 is slightly better but has this stupid built-in red dot zoom which blocks like 50% of your sight and the MG3 is bad too as the only thing it has is a great firerate which might be handy in "close combat" but there's the knife anyway and it doesn't make up for its laughable damage per shot and low accuracy (and the magazine is halfway empty after one enemy)...
Concerning the add-ons I play with the magnum ammo and the red dot. I like having the additional damage (armor plates don't do you any good againts snipers and don't block that much damage anyway) and the red dot thing is just crucial for good aiming (some weapons have a nasty zoom mode) while also blocking only little of your sight. The 4x zoom sounds nice at first but your field of view gets too tiny so it happens that you do not see an enemy approaching you from the left or right while you're zoomed in on a target plus even with just the red dot you still can see the enemies just fine and extreme distance combat is for the snipers anyway because of the damage loss so you don't need all that zoom power...
When playing assault I usually pick the grenade launcher. Only on that winter village map I also like going for the smoke launcher. It's extremely useful there as you can totally make those house campers around the flag useless as the smoke is dense and has quite some range and stays for quite a while. So your guys still can shoot in there blindly as they do anyway while the guys in the house more or less are helpless in that position as they see nothing unless someone spots you which is rather unlikely on that map (as you'll rather want to shoot than spot the enemy here). I also tried the shotgun for a while. It's also a decent one hit killer but not as versatile as the standard grenade launcher. I don't overuse it though and the only reason why I'd camp on a ammo kit is while waiting for finishing the flag capture...
With that said it's also get clear the I play conquest only. I mean that's what I bought a Battlefield game for. I never touched the hardcore or squad modes as those don't interest me and while the rush mode is sort of ok I enjoy constantly fighting for area control more than waiting for ages until that red blinking station finally blows up in rush mode...

the xm8, eh? i think i prefer the very first rifle to the XM8, but i'm willing to admit that im a spraying noob.
haven't tried medic yet... why would i want to help my team? bunch of bums ^^
i had an epiphany last night... why was i trying to shoot people, when i could blow them up? so i started using the engineer, and now i'm getting at least 1500 per round and always have a positive ratio.
sniping is great on certain maps; but sometimes it is totally useless... i'll pick a kit as the situation dictates certainly. i have to say i'm having a bit of trouble getting used to the realism of the sniper bullets actually taking time to hit people, but i've made some nice shots on faraway moving targets so i'm hoping this is a trend that will continue. certainly the mortar strike is a massive bonus, even if you aren't going to use a scoped rifle
i bit the bullet and played a ton of conquest last night as well (had mainly played the deathmatch) and it was lots of fun.
few questions... how do you get a "gold star" ? i got one and it was worth 5k, now i hunger for more...
also does levelling your guns up make them have better stats? i've levelled a few but wasn't paying attention to what was going on

awesome; didn't see this post :3
sent you a friend request.
nothing much to see on my stats page besides a losing record and a platinum star on my VSS special.
i'm still whoring the recon kit; but i've come to enjoy squad deathmatch as well as conquest, rather than just playing rush, and i think i've learned a lot more and have improved my game considerably.
in the last 2 weeks i've managed to fix my score by over 1k kills, i'm almost up to an even ratio, but since i'm at least 2:1 in pretty much every game now i've stopped worrying... time will heal it just as much as a concentrated effort.
current kit... chosen for flexibility & overpowered weapons...
M9-3 pistol (spray 'n' hooray) VSS Special (the most OP gun since the update IMO) C4 (pure points from this one) ammo upgrade, magnum ammo, and vehicle alt weaps.
i like hiding in the woods and shooting people... sneaking around and blowing stuff up. i like to snipe, but its always to shoot people in the back... i hate the people who sit in their spawn and always go for marksman shots... waste of space. sneaking around and doing missions is how you get the big money, and the frags will come along with it if you do your mission well.
nice work with the 9 golds for the LMG, i dont even have 100 kills with those yet :D

bc2 was fun but regenerating health is the worst thing that ever happened to fps, most retarded shit that could have put in a game

For single player, locational damage as per Deus Ex is great because you have time to appreciate handicaps and painstakingly seek healing.
For multiplayer, which is fast, furious and lean regeneration is ideal. you dont want to be searching around for healthpacks. you dont want a mechanic where if two players fight, the survivor wins on low health, he then will insta lose his next fight due to low health. for multiplayer, regen is good- it rewards skillful players who can repeatedly self-heal without dying.

It rewards people for camping and staying out of the action.
No good FPS has regenerating health.

but there's really no reward for it, its not like you can somehow win by hiding in the woods and regenerating, you can spend all game in the woods by yourself and it wont help you any!

Yeah but as soon as you get hit when you hide you can get back to full health as if you'd never been attacked, it also makes chasing down an opponent a waste of time, because unless you finish the job when you first see them its just a big waste of bullets, they'll be full health next time you see them.
It's especially redundant in bc2 where you heal from near-death to full health in less than 10 seconds, and yet they still have medics, which in addition to their almost worthless health packs have defibs which can bring back people from the dead at full health with about a 1 second cooldown. One time I ran across a battlefield and rezzed 8 people in about 10 seconds, it's as if they never died. That's the main reason why I never bought the game after the beta, things like that just ruin what could have potentially been very good.
Leave regenerating health, make the medics health drops useful, and remove the defib, that alone would make the game way better.

I played very realist multilayer shooters where you had to constantly run for 5 minutes before getting to any action, its freaking frustrating.
Personally i found the quick spawn and frontline spawning/squad spawning great.

I don't have a problem with those, although imo spawning should have been a couple seconds longer, it's just the defibs and regenerating health that ruined it for me. If you have a medic or two in your squad you're basically unstoppable if you know what you're doing.
I played the beta for a couple weeks with my team, and whenever there was 4 of us in a squad we basically couldn't be killed. Obviously this is partially because we were using tight teamwork in a pub, but honestly with a squad made up of 1 of each class you pretty much can't be stopped. If your medic dies, get behind cover for a few seconds until he's back, if one of you dies just let him defib you. Rinse and repeat.

so when you have a well organized group of players using all the game's classes they have an edge over other groups?how horrible.
You might have a point,i haven't actually played it extremely seriously.
Maybe when one does some flaws appear..
