ugly? haha look at this thread suggestions :D:D also, didnt you notice my new rank? its not that hard to copy the veteran star and change the colors of it. thats really all we need. i dont see any uglyness in those, how close do you watch your screen? 10cm?

and why would we need other background than white? you cant make such icons to be perfect on every possible background color. its not possible. (for example on black they would look too bright etc.)

on a side note, ranks arent meant to be an eye candy. i appreciate everything thats easily distinguishable, eyecandy is useless if it doesnt work.

My suggestion still is, that the current ones just needs some shining, and for the 8th rank, I'd just go with bronze, silver and golden vet star... Or, If the current lower stars does not fit in the scene anymore, make them "plates" or "roses" or something simple like that...

there is potential confusion on the last 4... I kinda like the idea of Gnomons for 1, 2, 3, 4 as depicted and then something like my blue shield with the stars that SirArtturi posted for 5-8 (1 star, 2 stars, 3 stars, Big Spring Sunburst)... I'm only forumming on my lunch-break... I'll mock up when I get a change at home tonight...

also @neddiedrow ... I know what you mean with edge contrast... which is why my suggestions have a dark border before the transparency begins... the trade-off is effective pixels but I think the advantage of having transparency makes it worth it.

edit: (sorry, Gnomon might not be as commonly understood as Chevron... and technically less accurate in this context.)

we could take the 4 first old ones, and the 3latest simbad ones, and simbad could make a last rank like blue star on golden background or something

even better, use the existing icons but shift them up 1 slot, making 0 ranked players not get their rank icon until they reach rank 1. (so the rank 1 icon would be a blank 16x16)

Quickly Done... now that I see them together I think the hair/beards looks dumb the way I did them... might need to pixel paint to get these right.

If you're considering mine, Satirik, I can make them handle transparency, it just takes getting to a computer and a little time. Otherwise, fine.
