I actually talked about that same issue with restrictor ages ago. What we concluded was that Piro should match Pyro in dutch, but I used google translate now which suggests word with "y" (I used pyromaniac for translation).
There are other languages tho, for example in slovenian we would use "i", if that makes you happy.
