Re: What do you want to see more of in CA?
to the devs who say but but we have one or two of that:
Re: What do you want to see more of in CA?
Id like to see more putting together just one lab with all options instead of many different labs and spare players the reclaim and rebuild of diff labs.
Re: What do you want to see more of in CA?
wtf i actually agree with all of smoth's suggestions
also who the hell did you talk to midknight.

R-Team gui is work in progress and yes its a major problem. Atm even IceUI breaks with CA, and it will become worse over time.
Thats why we are working on nice own GUI like Gundam has.

Re: What do you want to see more of in CA?
Does CA still block widgets unless you fill out a certain form hidden 3 layers deep in one of the menu widgets?
Re: What do you want to see more of in CA?
Yes, its in crude menu.
And its needed google, many things break CA or just dont work. No reason to let people who came from BA to experience that.
Of course advanced want their widgets and they can enable it. Problem is menu atm isnt visible in stable.
The checkbox to unblock local widgets could be directly in widget list.

Re: What do you want to see more of in CA?
The playerbase that CA can snatch off at the moment is BA.
The main thing noobs love about BA is porc.
the main thing that CA tries to prevent IS porc.
Its a bit incompatible with BA mindset, and, hence, many BA people are not going to want to play CA.
If the project was new, I would, honestly, suggest to take BA and add a few gfx updates, new models, a SLIGHT gameplay change, even just make it porcier (look, Senna's mod is played a lot). That will attract more people to your mod, and there, once you have the player base, you could start steering it into the direction you want.
Listening to old vets who play CA and love CA is destructive as well, due to conservative nature of humans.
From my point of view, the best shot for CA is to break the ties with spring community and stand on its own as a completely separate game. Get slashdotted, get known, and you will get a stable and relatively large playerbase. But until then, just use the current scraps of the playerbase to test and polish the product.

Id rather CA die in a fire than become BADSD, its better than that.==Troy== wrote:The playerbase that CA can snatch off at the moment is BA.

Exactly my point about conservative human nature.

its not about being conservative.==Troy== wrote:Otherside wrote: Id rather CA die in a fire than become BADSD, its better than that.

If i want a game that plays like BA ill play BA.
IF i want something different from BA (which i do) i want another game. Improving on BA's gameplay is IMO not worth it because i feel the core of the game is flawed and without some drastic reform i would not find it very enjoyable over a long period of time.
BADSD is not BA at its best its BA at its worst and a poor showing of spring and BA as a mod. I think even the BA dev's and the "pro" BA players dislike that BA has turned into a mod played pretty much on 1-2 maps and in the same boring/mindless fashion.
Some outside idea's would be good and im sure CA dev's would welcome them. But if the idea's are basically turn CA into BA with pretty gfx the dev's wont listen to you.
Re: What do you want to see more of in CA?
@Troy
I'd say more SimBase than porc. CA's high-powered LLTs are much porcier than BA's overpriced jewelry. The difference is that in BA you have so much more to defend - you're building layers and layers of econ. In CA, at least until heavy assault units start getting massed, three cheap little LLTs next to each other can make mincemeat of a terrific force. That makes CA a little porcier. The only real difference is the lack of the Viper and Pitbull.

Re: What do you want to see more of in CA?
I do not dislike that BA is played repeatedly on the same maps, and I don't find it boring or mindless. It's fun. You know nothing.Otherside wrote:BADSD is not BA at its best its BA at its worst and a poor showing of spring and BA as a mod. For the rest of you debating new features for CA to make it better, or balance etc. The problem is not there.
CA is already a good game, it's all in the marketing now: rename after IP issues are resolved and begin to advertise without making people hate you, f.e. do not spam #main with ridiculous ads, that's what hit CA's reputation hard before.
Create a friendly non-invasive distribution like an installer containing spring itself, or a portable offline version of thereof. Make a more straightforward website that doesn't overwhelm you with pages of info and has a nice download button etc.
Change version labeling, 4325 etc is scary, players don't care how many revisions it has. 1.0x where x is the n-th released stable version would look much more appealing, for test versions anything goes.
Re: What do you want to see more of in CA?
i said "pro" players and devs not com bombers

This isnt about CA being BA or not. This is about a simple situation :
Currently the ONLY playerbase CA can leech from is BA. If BA people do not like CA (in general, with a few exceptions) CA will stay dead.
Once you get players, you can do whatever small changes you want to make, and shift your playerbase from BA to real CA in a matter of 1-2 years of progressive changes.
All of this, of course, assuming that there are no other player pools to intake from.
@ pxtl
Last time I have played the absence of porc was the problem that seemed to upset BA players, I could be wrong, but whatever it is, its not in CA.
@ regret
Mostly what I have said before, but more detailed. I do agree with most of the points but the marketing part, or rather, marketing in spring playerbase. Its not going to work since the current CA reputation as a game that sucks has already established itself, and there isnt much that is going to change it.

Re: What do you want to see more of in CA?
id like CA to be less porcy the tower spam is getting kind of old.
Once you make a breach its fine but the tower spammign stalemate and waiting for assault/arty till that happens can be improved on.
Imo make towers more expensive (and increase there power to compensate) so u get less towers but the same power so you cant spam defences but still make use of them.
Also about getting Players the CA devs are aware that to get players for CA they must look away from spring (hence 1faction even though i dont particularly like)
Most BA players are hostile or intolerant of anything that falls outside there comfort zone (DSD or anything similar) and im glad in a sense that these players have not been inherited.
the main reasons CA's playerbase dropped was TASClient failing in one of the past spring releases and springlobby having no fuctionality with springdowloader and it not being included with the new releases. This made it a pita to get new players. It really has nothing to do with BA players disliking CA.

Otherside: stop being aggressive please, this is about outsider ideas whats missing from CA for them, not a place for you to bash posts.
Troy: yeah I think that BA feels more "porcy" and generally less frantic. I even want to make some adjustments to economy to make it less territory dependent (and hence more porceable). It can be done with map too (less but more powerfull mexes).
I also think that for nubs it can be too fast and CA pros too hard hitting at times.

im not being aggresive or saying anything that hasn't been said before.
and CA's expansive game is one of its strong points and shudn't be gimped if anything should be altered of the porcyness or defined battle lines that seem to happen in every team game.

Re: What do you want to see more of in CA?
@Licho
really? I'd argue that BA is much worse for "panic", other than comm-pushing. Maybe it's the cheaper, more plentiful LLTs, but usually BA raiding is more likely to make me crap my pants in panic, mostly because I know it's utterly hopeless to stop them once they've gotten past my front lines. I think the differences in raiding go a long way to make CA less scary, although CA is a little more intense in mobile-to-mobile combat... but imho, it should be. When you have two armies fighting, it _should_ be intense.
Plus, CA's units are so much more responsive. You don't have that moment of massive frustration watching your clumsy little commander or tank lumbering out of the way much, much too slowly. You give the order, watch it retreat... and then die anyways because _you_ were too slow, not because the unit takes a year and a day to reverse course.
The only time I feel "frantic" playing CA is when I'm searching through the build-menu or fighting with the bugs in the radial-build-menu (especially during a comm-push fight). Otherwise I find it much more relaxing than BA.
CA is a little faster than BA, yes... but it also feels more "forgiving" to me, which makes my heart a little lighter when playing it.

I was not suggesting any permanent changes to CA at all. I was just making a logical conclusion on what is needed if you guys still plan to keep on trying to gain popularity with BA elephant as your neighbour.
If I was to decide, Id rather go for whatever the current playerbase is, and be happy with it, using it for balancing and bugfixing, until the game is ready for a permanent full-scale separate release. Then, it really will not matter how close or far it is from BA, since BA is not going to be anywhere near, or matter for the playerbase.
