Mother, this mabey a stupid thing to say, but just make sure grass is turned on in your settings. As I said, this is probably stupid, but I have definatley seen worse. Much worse.

Anyway, I like the map. I also want to make maps, cause it sounds fun. Just a quextion, how big would a map be thats 1024x1024? Cause I have a picture ready to go thats that size, and I think it would be an alright map. Ill just wait for SharpMap to come out.

Gnome (who is having login issues) says that it will be 2X2.

Here is a link to the map http://www.mufdvr.222clan.com/highlands.7z I went with the native spring metal view and placed it randomly in small clusters including underwater, so getting you feet wet is essential for at least start pos 2.
I left the original skybox you see in the screenshots, its not the best skybox around but looks better than the native spring sky untill I can get some good source images.

I like the map. a few small things is missing ... some trees and
you should add more metal deposits. Also, on the geos did you have
the geovent.bmp in the directory when you compiled your map?
When you have the geovent.bmp in the dir during compiling.
It will add that affect to the map. So it adds the cracks to the
ground where the steam is coming out .

Just thought id point you to teh map making guild Maelstrom, that will give all the info you need to make the map. However you will need to wait for sharp map to compile it (but still it gives you file the sizes ect...)

http://taspring.clan-sy.com/wiki/Create_maps

Hope thats helpfull.

I would forget about trees for this map,, it was never meant to have them.
The climate and high altitude of the terrain I am depicting here are not where you would typically find trees.
About the geo`s I am aware there is no graphic on the map, I just like it that way. The metal,, there are 110 metal patches on this map, I really think thats enough. :? for an example, Painted Desert has less than 80 metal patches and is the same size as this map.

YAY! A map making guild named after me!

And I have seen that wiki entry thanks aGorm, just I really dont want to wade through all the command line parameters to work out how to compile a map. I tried it once, and it just didnt work a all. And then i have to work out the zip thing, and the script file thing and the other stuff...

Im just gonna wait for SharpMap :P

Sharp map doesn't do it all for yoiu you know... the script file thing and teh ziping will probablie still have to be done by hand!

However if you have the files and you know there names, I could just write you a .bat to run that would make it for you.

And if you cant figure out the zipin then someone else can do it for u.

Well im sure I can figure out that other stuff, but I was just putting it in to make my plight seem worse than it is. I could probably even make a map using the current tools, but im just to lazy right now. And im on the wrong computer. And the map in question is probably crap anyways. Oh well. When I finally get back onto the other computer I will try to compile the map again. Then go find 7zip or whatever it is. And try to decode the script file. And stuff.

As ive said in another thread, If someone updated the tutorial with examples of stuff it would help lots.

I have uploaded an updated version of The Highlands, more metal and geovents with the correct graphic.
I also got the file size down to 13.7mb that includes the skybox.
Could somebody please upload this to FU, thanks :-)
Apologies to those who already downloaded this map once already, this is the last update.

The OTA map that was a board-game just tickled me to death. It'd be great to see it or something similar (bigger maybe) again, in all of it's 3D glory.

Oh make a snakes and ladders game board!!!

Ill see what I can do. Dont promise anything though, would be only the second map ive ever made. the first map was only 1024x1024, and sucked.

Ah well I have to start somewhere. As sson as we get placable features (like wreakage, buildings, rocks) we can make some game peices and make a chess board!
