Yep. Pretty much the whole 6xxx series (well, 6420 and up) is an identical chip with different multipliers/default FSB speed.

Yeah the lower stock front side bus speed lets you really push it hard. If you can't get a 50% overclock ur doin it rong.

Edit: Though if you're going to use the stock heatsink you should get some arctic silver and clean off the sucky thermal paste that comes on it.

I don't know about monitors, but I stayed in a hotel with a widescreen CRT television last week. It was really weird looking! They certainly must be rather rare.

mm on the subject of screens, i would spend more on a screen (~AU$300). You will be looking at it a lot, and its better to get a half decent screen that a better hard drive/cpu/gfx card.

i would suggest you downgrade you graphics card to a 7600 (which will also play spring better, imo)

i dont know how much that would save you, in CA$

About 35 dollars...not worth it IMO

Are the PSUs in Case/PSU combos usually any good?

Also, i think i might drop the graphics card from the build entirely. Instead I'll get a slightly used card on craigslist after christmas, the market should be somewhat flooded with people discarding their old cards.

It depends an awful lot what the case manufacturer is. In this case (pardon the pun) its antec. which is not bad .

you have put down in you spec list that you are buying a antecc, which is good and should outlast at least one upgrade. if i were you i would leave the PSU as it is :)

and good work on factoring in a decent PSU, a lot of people do not.

Ok im just worried that my case wont have sufficient cooling as im planning to overclock the cpu and possibly the gpu (looking at an 8800gt, they perform close-to-par with the 8800)

the 8800GT is very good value and has great performance. the trouble is getting hold of one at a decent price. its not that hard (or expensive) to put more fans, and/or a better heatink on you case and cpu

<EDIT>

also, looking at reviews for the case you wanted, it looks good, and is getting good reviews, the only negitive points is that its a bit noisy, and the case sides are thin and a bit flimsy.

8800GT also runs at near 100 celcius...

Sheekel, you gonna buy 8800GT, but you said you want those to be less than 800$ ? i dont think you can get 8800GT that cheap :P

Yeah, i readed that, but you cant get 8800GT o_O probably people are selling their 8800GTS with reasonable prize, but it will still cost probably like 200$

I bet you can already buy their old cards because of that new GT....

For example:

Not quite what im looking for but you get the idea.

So it'll be about 785

which is great considering how much better the 8800GT is over the 8600

I use an 8800 for a stove instead of spending $400 for a new heatrange.
