it's obvious just get the cheapest nvidia 6#00 u can find, plug it in and be done about it. It's not like they will become much cheaper then now or any new agps will be made. Its for the little brothers for gods sake, who cares if it lags a little for them. Can probably play 1v1 on comet just fine and thats all they should be doing if you wanna school them to be pro anyway... If they want to play on a nicer comp they can get the cash and pay themselves.

Zpock what you say is unlikely to be the case. All we know is that he has a "Pentium III". That is too uncertain to say all he needs is a better graphics card. In fact there's a very strong likelihood that his PIII is a low to middle end one. The high end ones, as you'd expect, were too expensive for an average joe. A low- or middle-end P3 will not provide a playable experience, let alone an enjoyable one.

So if we've established that his CPU is likely a major limiting factor, it makes no sense to encourage him to buy a better GPU as if it will solve any problems.

Since we know that he will need to upgrade his CPU and his current motherboard most certainly will not support one of adequate power, he will need a new motherboard.

If we know he will need a new motherboard, he will be able to buy one with PCI-E cheaper than he will be able to buy one with AGP, unless he takes the risk of going pre-owned.

If he is going PCI-E, there are far better choices than the 6x00 series. More performance for less money, with no disadvantage.

Give it up already... Why does everyone argue with me just for the sake of it? I'm not claiming you're stupid, I'm just very experienced with this kind of thing. If someone has a better idea than me, by all means prove me wrong, but so far all there's been are people telling him to spend more for less. There's no point in arguing it as if there was something to be lost. This guy has a limited budget, lets get him the most we can for the least money.

I just wanted to say that I ran spring for ages on my PIII 1.4GHz/1GB system for ages and it was ok, but seriously lagged if big games dragged on.
