don't change anything, its not our fault they have prehistoric hardware... modern cards are expensive sure.. but the one I have, a x1600 is like 100$ maybe, and its an ATI and it kickes the crap out of spring, supcom, CNC3, Oblivion, just about everything...
I say they need to step up, get a quick little part time job, work, omg, 2 DAYS!.. and go get a f'in new videocard.. its worth it.
Making the rather large assumptions here that:
1. It's easy to get a job in any country!
2. All spring players are old enough to get a part time job!
3. Part time jobs pay as well everywhere in the world as in the US!
4. Computer hardware is as cheap and readily available everywhere in the world as in the US!

Lathan, it's not due to the card's performance but rather on the texture size limit IIRC.
ATI has 2048x2048 while nVidia has 4096x4096 IIRC.

what drivers are you using? the ones the profider for your laptop gave?? if so, upgrade!
use the dhmodtool to modify the origional card drivers to run on the mobility versions, and well... yer set!
trust me.
I have a mobility radeon 9000 in my laptop, and it'll run Doom3 on 800x600 with medium detail and bumpmapping, shadows, specular effects etc. its pretty damn schweet...
(on the origional manufacturer drivers, it hardly got 4 fps with 640x480 on min detail everything, no bump, no shadows, nothing..) needless to say, it was a DRASTIC improvement.
and yes, it will also unlock other abilities on your card (sometimes) like higher blocks of memory on the video ram, because the damn card won't use so much of its own, thus giving you a bigger block of texture data to process and therefore run this map!..

its a damn gaming forum and community, most "gaming" communities have "gaming" hardware...

this is probably the BIGGEST group of whining nerds I have ever ran into... most nerds just keep talking about getting better hardware like me... not whining about how everyone needs to back off and dumb-down to their level...
damn people, grow up.

I think it's more a case of your willful ignorance of the world at large and disregard more than anyone elses imaturity, tbh.

WOW... ok.... the only reason I brought up the file size was not to start a big
debate it was just so you might keep in mind that even though your map is
very nice looking the majority of the players of spring won't want to take the
time to wait for other players to DL it, and therefor your map won't get the
attention that other maps will.
Think of it this way, if you release a map with realy bad screen shots (even
though the map may Roxzors) most players won't touch it. With this cummuntiy realy large map file sizes is a turn off.
I only offer this suggestion so that your map (and later maps you make) gets
it's due attention.
As far as my own opinion... I'm all about quality and artistic expression, and
I'm happy to see another person getting into the mapping groove.

Gah, I bitched a long time to get my 110$ video card... EVEN AFTER I SAVED UP 600 FUCKEN DOLLARS MYSELF TO BUY SOME NEW PARTS THEY DIDN'T LET ME! Took me 2 1/2 years to save that... Instead, they took it and put it in an account I can use for going to college, which I am going to do for free, with a scholarship.
It's really hard for someone 12-14 to earn some good damn spending money. I like football and baseball, but nobody in the immediate area to play with nor big areas to do so in, and I'm not a bigheaded dumbass who thinks hes gunna make it big leagues.
Modding/developing is my life blood, and for some reason, A LOT FUNNER THAN ACTUALLY PLAYING SPRING GAMES!
The only way to get what you want is to buy the bricks, buy the concrete, and pave the road to it yourself, in general, its pretty annoying. (referring to buying parts and playing fun games. Why do you think I mod for an open source RTS engine?

)
So, what did I get for 200 bucks total? A card that runs Spring decently, and 512 more mega bytes of ram. Does it obliterate Oblivion? Nope, got okayishly decent graphics, but I need to OC it by about 20% to have it on all of my preferred settings... (and I am a good wiz with the INI, I used to edit it all the time with Oldblivion)
/end angry as hell rant

Okay, now on to the map.
Holy shit! That's all I got to say. This map looks amazingly fun, and almost perfect looking for my mod. It looks like a province I remember from the original game. Hover units and transport ships would play a big role in this... Humm.. I think I shall DL this map. For sure a damn good job.

Thanks rune, I appreciate the understanding.
To everyone else, it is possibly 1 of 2 issues.. the texture was not 2048X2048, it was 1000 X 1000 because 1024X1024 had this wierd issue with it rendering a texture that looked like a checker board. So I reduced it to a 1000X1000.
so my best guess is that some cards cannot handle odd sized skybox panels. I already have it fixed but I am swamped with school work at the moment. I will upload the fix tonight when I get back from my coursework. However, as I already said, some people are having an issue.. the rest of us it runs VERY well.
So, yeah, I do not blame the user, that is just a problem with the hardware. As a designer I have to make some amount of consideration to user issues as far as once they get the file so I will fix it. I am going to try and keep the quality at a high level so you gents can still get a pretty map and some of our lower end users can still run the map. :)
also please stop the debate over the video cards in here, I did not make this thread for that.

so was I, I thought for sure it would not work but since it did and everyone who played it said it worked I thought it was good to go.
