Spring RTS Engine

I knocked together a quick design. It basically follows Sinbad's design, and keeps the same colours/graphics that the site currently uses.

Banner should stretch all the way across, and there should be padding on the sides.

I updated it. It now has a large margin. Im not going to make a big banner for it right now, mabey tommorow. Anyone else got any comments for it?

Looing good, pretty much how I imagined it.
I´d put a description of the Spring project in the top right corner instead of the first news item. Sinbadev´s is a good start. There´s a slightly changed version here, which I encourage to futher modify and add to.

I think the picture should change every time you visit. It makes the page more active, as well as showcasing potentially neglected mods.

I really like the features there mael and it's nice that it's able to accomidate larger monitor ratios, but from a design prespective it's really alot uglier then what we are working with right now.

I don't think oversimplistic is the best look for this kind of project. We want to advertize ourselfs a little more with our website.

update the poll with all the knew stuff in this forum..

this time tho be sure to add an option for i like things the way they are =]

this will be raved about for a little while.. but i cant see any huge changes emerging from this post.. maybe if it were more open ended.. i.e. not these are my redesigns for your site.. pick one..

although thats rather opinionated i can see maybe the web layout changing.. how about overdose of framesets and other rare things if flash has been ruled out

like how about u go to http://taspring.clan-sy.com its a huge welcome screen no scrolling.. maybe some kind of animation or something click the huge sun to enter (or there would be a taskbar "jump-to" kind of thing at the top for forum etc...)

then u enter: the firmiliar navigational bar at the top.. redesigned.. in frame 1

news page not packed with info but a large download sign somewhere with a link below for torrent tracker download. remembering to keep important things for people who browsed onto the site at the top i.e. small information an image probably.. maybe even like the latest uploaded image or a random image or something.. then make the users of the game scroll down to the news then as u click the links in frame 1 (navi) frame 2 changes to show the appropriate site

design ways... good luck.. a re-organisation like this i can see happening but new logo site design even changing the background colour is a distant dream until the dev team steps in

Rabbit: It's bad design to put forums in frames. Makes it too difficult to access specific thread and post adresses.

I have nothing better to do, so this is something I quickly made up.

This would not be complete, I am re doing the box borders, icon yet.. header is just the same image as the backdrop which I would not normaly do ect ect.

Also, its in brown.. I just like brown personaly.. easy to change.

A site like this could not extend as the content goes with it, unless I just add a black fade to the back image and just repeat black, or extend the fade as it goes. Or just add a scroll bar into to the content area.

Wordpress powered.. completly CSS. Rotational pics in header. Future plans involve gallery, forum etc. Wordpress suits just well. Easy and plain simple administration with great comment system etc. Design is pluged in via theme system etc.

But i am not gonna use WP for curent Spring site. I said before what i will use and in near future you will see how. Expect something functional, generic and plain simple packed with latest technology ...and this is not flash. i have another suprise too. It's not concerning design as i m not working on it. So i hired a guy. He is good, you can believe me :)

If is someone interested it can be worked together. As i was not intereferened with "AF" , there was just nice coperation. There is lot of work to do: Lot of content to write, manuals, tactics, help, engine help system etc. Some standards to standardise.. Is it called TASpring, SpringRTS, Epic engine as description etc? Then wrote all that down so discussion over this is over, one time for all.

It's bad design to crush a site into 640 pixles.

When will you hax web disigners learn to make sites functional? Websites should be able to stretch to accomidate multiple aspect ratios.

Everythings too small. Save the banner, thats possibly too big.

If the darkstars site is resized to 800x600px, which it is obviously designed for, the header pic takes up more that half the screenspace.

The design I posted is in no way final, nicer looking borders and the like can easily be put in. It was basically Sinbad's pic ported to HTML. If someone makes some nice borders, I will chuck them on the site.

Ill also make the pic on the side rotate. If anyone wants to send me some nice pics, please do. 270x500px is the size, although the height can vary if you want.

my idea for the left side image was a nice... like... commander, standing there with some WD tanks behind him and some FF ships kinda "coming out of the scree... with a few nanoblobs things in there too or whatever... over top of the sunrize logo...

PS: one tyhing I really like about funneses is that the whole screens background is one giant screenshot... it's a really cool effect if it can be done right... though load times will make it look kinda crappy...
